Eh... but how much Desparate Housewives and That's So Raven do you want to watch while mobile, let alone own?

It's an intersting start and we'll have to see how it shakes out in the long run.

Some little Iger quote from today:
"This is the first giant step in terms of making content available to more people in more places," said Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger. "This is just the beginning of what we believe will be a long and prosperous relationship between Apple and Disney."

Hopefully that means both breadth and depth in what they will pull out of the Disney/ABC catalog.

Okay, that's good, keeping ties with companies is good. Now, how about working with Pixar, hmmm? That sounds rather important to me...
Well, if Jobs at Apple can work with Iger for media content, I'm assuming the same Jobs at Pixar will be able to mend fences with Iger for CGI movies.

I really don't see the point. Why spend $2 on it when I can record it on my VCR/PVR/DVP?
Why would people pay for ring tones for cell phones?

I'll admit it doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, so hopefully they have ideas for unique content to sell in the future.

Apparently the relationship is not just for the new video iPods. You can download and watch them with quicktime on your pc as well:

Disney, Apple in TV Show Deal

Walt Disney Co. and Apple Computer Inc. reached an agreement Wednesday to offer ABC and Disney Channel television shows for download from Apple’s iTunes 6 program. The downloaded shows will play on computers as well as the new iPod video device that Apple debuted on Wednesday. As part of the agreement, Apple will offer downloadable versions of the hit ABC programs “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost,” along with the new series “Night Stalker” and the Disney Channel’s “That’s So Raven” and “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” for $1.99 per episode.

Current season episodes of “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost” will be available the day after they are broadcast, and episodes from the complete first seasons of those shows will be available for download immediately, the companies said in a joint statement. Selected past episodes of “That's So Raven” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” will be made available as well.

The revamped iTunes will also sell downloads of more than 2,000 music videos and short films from Pixar Animation Studios for $1.99 each. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“This initiative is a perfect example of us applying our strategic priorities, namely, marrying great content with cutting edge technology to more effectively distribute our content while enhancing the experience for our customers,” said Robert A. Iger, CEO of Disney.

The new video iPod features a 2.5-inch color screen larger than those on standard iPods on a device that is 30 percent thinner than its predecessor. The new device, which will begin shipping next week, can hold up to 150 hours of video or 15,000 songs. A model that can store 30 gigabytes of data will cost $299, while a 60-gigabyte version will cost $399.

Interesting though with a dvr, I don't need to download it personally.

I do like the idea of downloading episodes, hey bring more shows and animated short. I dont own a DVR / VCR / DVD R (unless is in my computer) so i can't record them so is a great idea. How sad i can make a DVD of it because of the FairPlay protection but lets wait and see.

Cool idea but I wont be getting it. I just dont see myself watching tv on a 2.5 inch screen. I have a 50 inch at home and that is a bit too small at times. Plus I would never really use it. Maybe in bed but thats about it. I drive myself so i have no need for it on a bus.

Despite technology advances, an MP3 player should only do as it says: Play music files. I guess they will have to call it a "Multimedia Player" now.

Either way, it's good to see that Jobs and Iger are interacting, and seem to be forgetting the chip on their shoulder. I couldn't say whether providing Housewives or Lost available for download will boost the new iPod sales. It's cool to see that Disney is making these available.

I'll buy the videos off iTunes. I just started watching Desperite Housewives Season 1 by renting the DVDs at Blockbuster and I figured I was going to have to illegally download the newest season to catch up. Now I can just spend $1.99 per episode to do it legally and its simple too. Apple and Disney are always looking out for me it seems :)

And now I really am considering branching out to get that new 60 gig video iPod because I love Desperite Housewives, i've heard all kinds of good things about Lost, I love the Disney Channel shows, and the Pixar Shorts OMG.

I really see big things coming from this thing. I would love to be able to watch movies on my iPod. I don't care how small the screen is and when I do want it big, I can hook it up to my TV. I work in a projection booth so i'm all about mobile media. I want small multimedia devices to keep me from getting bored. The iPod has to date been my best purchase in mobile devices (besides my laptop) but now the Video iPod looks to be my next.

Well, I know one iPod that go sold because of its new video capabilities. My roommate always made fun of me for having an iPod. "It doesn't do video" he said, "Get the _____ player. It's got better features." Well, today he proclaimed "it's got everything I need" and promptly purchased one. The engraving on the back? "If found unattended, avenge my death. -Tom"

I was plannig on getting the 30 GB model until these were released. Now with video, I will probably spring for the 60GB. My iPod is 3 years old. The battery power is not completely horrid yet, but it is down enough for me to qualify for the settlement. Makes me glad I chose the $50 apple credit over the $25 cash.

Anyone remember when Iger was talking about narrowing the movie release window? I could see Disney releasing iPod versions of the movies for $5-10. That would be really cool.
