Has anyone ever heard of the apartment that is allegedly in the Castle? I've seen threads about people talking about it being there. Has anyone been inside of it? and why was it built?!

I thought I heard something once that Walt built it for family if they ever came under a time of crisis. Right now, I believe it's used for storage. I could be way off, though...

yes

Looking through my Disney history books here that I have. There was in fact a "room" built for Walt as an appartment. He never got to use it but it is there.

My wife and I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour over Thanksgiving. Our guide said an apartment was built in the castle for Walt and his family. It sits above the resturant with windows over looking Fantasyland. It was used for many years by the WDW telephone operators, but now is just storage.

In Magic Kindom the apartment is in the Castle but in Disneyland the apartment is in the Firehouse. For some of the staff to know that Walt was in was a lamp light near one of the windows was turn on, as a way that Walt is in spirit the have it all the time on now. (shown in one of the resent Travel Channel programs about DLC)

the apartment was designed into the castle, but obviously never used. It was used to house the WDW operators for many years, but now it's a greenroom and storage for the castle shows/staging area for Tinkerbells flight

Its sad that it was never used by the Disney family. Hmmm i wonder if Eisner would ever think to rent the room out for mucho dinero LOL J/K!!!

Nope, the dressing room is right off the entrance as you walk into the castle (from the front). The "apartment" was used for telephone operators and has since been used for Tinkerbell before she makes her way down from the castle.

Like everyone else said it's being used for storage, etc. I'm not sure about the performers on stage though...could be maybe. IT was originally used for Walt and his family, but they never saw that happen. Then it was used for years by the WDW telephone operators.

to get an idea of the alleged apartment, look at the castle from the rear If you look towards the top at the right hand side, you'll see three rectangular-like windows side by side. Thats where the room is. the dressing room for the show is the door on your left as you walk through the castle from the front.

UR sorta half right. U are correct about one dressing room being at ground level, but "the apartment" is also utilized as a dressing room/green room for certain "special" performers. So there are in fact TWO dressing rooms in the castle.

The "apartment" is used (or has been used) for other characters as well. The streetmosphere for Main Street, for example...

Couple years ago, they were going to have a contest and let the winner spend the night in that apartment in the castle.
However, after it was announced, they figured out that there was no plumbing up there for a bathroom.:brick:
So much for the contest....

There must be at least 300 sinks and toilets in The Magic Kingdom...I don't think plumbing is a problem.:hammer:

Actually, they were not going to let the guests walk around the park after closing. They were going to be sort of locked into the apartment. But, it was not practical with no access to running water or a toilet.

Plumbing would be an easy thing to solve there. There's already plumbing running to and from the castle because of the restaurant. Can't very well have a restaurant without running water.
