Please help! Right now I am running AOL 8.0 Plus. Every time I attempt to start AOL 9.0 Optimized, my computer restarts automatically! Urrrr!!! I am on a Sony VAIO Pentium 4, only about 5 months old. My brother has the exact same model and 9.0 is working perfectly fine. Please help!

First off...AOL is buggy software..always has been..and always will be. Their tech support is of little to no help (has been like that for over 8 years now), and the only things they add with each software update is the ability to shove more ads in your face (kinda funny..you pay for internet and STILL have to look at ads).

Your problem can be caused by 2 different things::

1.) you may have a nasty lil virus (wouldnt suprise me if you got it via AOL)

2.) Your system specs were convieniently overlooked by AOL and is not compatible..forcing you to stay with verison 8.

MY suggestion.....get rid of AOL. There are far more cheaper, easie, and faster options out there.

Oh dear, i had the exact same problems with AOL 7.0 and 8.0.

In the end i got rid of AOL, best move i ever made.

Tramp found me a good page explaining it, but i deleted the link unfortunately, so this one will have to do.

Hope it helps.

I think it may be a virus also, but i'm not quite sure.

Anyways, I can not switch because AOL is the only good provider with DSL service (which I use). The computer came with just AOL 8.0 but I had no problems upgrading to 8.0 Plus. Now, I actually downloaded a test version of 9.0 Optimized which AOL offered its users and that started it all. Then I deleted the entire program off my computer and waited until the perfect, regular version of 9.0 Optimized was available. I still have the same problems.

I dont understand though why I have two of the same models in my house and only this one is not working properly. I never will buy a Sony computer again:mad: !

I also agree that AOL's tech support is horrid, I wrote 10 emails explaining my situation and not ONE was returned! I have been trying to get my dad to swtich over to MSN but MSN does not offer Broadband service.

Chances are..if your phone lines are DSL compatible (which they are seeing how you are using AOHell DSL)..there are other alternatives. Either thru your local phone company, or another 3rd party (such as earthlink/mindspring, which i have used with 0 problems for the past 5 years).

Also..keep in mind that even if the HARDWARE of the systems are identicle...they arent the same. Different software has been installed on each system, and in different orders etc. THAT makes the difference. I wouldnt go blaming sony, id still go blameing AOL for releasing un-tested software as they normally do. The way AOL loves to think is that you have a computer that runs their software ALONE, and as the brain center of everything....which..in most cases..isnt true.

You think THIS is bad, try removing AOL from your system completly...

I know that probelm too.

I've given up on it, and just hidden it in the dark recesses of my HD.
