At the Osborne lights... there is usually a Black cat hung somewhere in the display... It was part of a Halloween presentation that they also did, but it got packed in the Xmas stuff when it went to Disney... This is what it looks like... last year it was tucked in an alley by the basketball hoop, but it changes each year... http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/osb106.jpg

Anyone found it yet???

Actually it's purple... I think it was that way not only because purple is sort of a new Halloween color... but I think it WAS supposed to be for a black light...

Go look for it... it's there...

Here's the explanation - from Anita Answer at All Ears...

Not a week goes by that I don't read your column. Last week you mentioned that there is significance to a black cat at the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. Just wondering if you knew the significance and where it has been spotted in past years? I have held off mentioning this to my 16-year-old daughter, for fear that we may not be able to leave before finding the black cat!
Hi Helen!
The story, as told to me by a Cast Member who helped put up the Osborne Spectacle of Lights a few years ago, goes like this:

In 1994, the Osbornes were ordered by the Arkansas Supreme Court to cease lighting their huge holiday display because their neighbors found the constant traffic to be an annoyance. In 1995, Disney came to the rescue with an offer to display the lights on Residential Street in the Disney-MGM Studios. (Alas, Residential Street has gone to the great theme park in the sky, but the spectacle now resides on the Streets of America...)

When the Cast Members were unpacking the crates of lights and displays, they found that a lone Halloween display, the black cat, had stowed away and made the trip to Florida. Since it was in the boxes with the Christmas lights, they assumed it was supposed to be part of the Spectacle of Lights, and the cat was put into one of the displays along Residential Street.

When Jennings Osborne visited his Spectacle of Lights for the first time at MGM, he pointed out the cat and said it didn't belong in the Christmas display, but belonged instead in his Halloween display back home in Arkansas. Because the cat had made such a great effort to get to Florida, it was decided the cat should stay anyway. ;-) So now, the cat hides in a new place every year, as a sort of "Hidden Kitty." I can no longer recall all of the places I've seen it hiding year after year, but it always hides in plain sight.

Hint: The cat is actually a deep purple and not really black. Happy hunting!
