I did the speed boats out of the Polynesian twice so far.. but on my next trip im going to try the other lake.. by the boardwalk. Anyone ever try that?

I think the Polynesian lake area would be the best because you can see the contemporary, the beautiful grand floridian, and the Magic Kingdom's castle even. Are there any good sights if you do the speed boats from the Boardwalk area?

You can go by fort wilderness and discovery island too (it looks so sad)

They are a blast -- me and the just turned three year old daughter spent more than an hour out there.

it's the first half hour that's expensive -- after that it's like 8 bucks a half hour or hour or something -- so take an hour or two and really enjoy it....

anybody know where the other docks go -- i know there are ones at downtown disney and carib beach.

My husband and I rented them when we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. We had an awesome time riding around the lake. We also rented them at the Boardwalk when we stayed at the Villas. The problem is, because of the size of the waterway at the Boardwalk and because of all of the traffic from the boats going to EPCOT and the Studios, the boats at the Boardwalk go significantly slower than those at Bay Lake. So, if you like going fast - stick with Bay Lake.

Well I'm not sure how close you can get on watermice but I supposed you can see MGM's entrance along with the ToT and Epcot's back door with parts of England and France. You can go under a few bridges as well, something can't do around MK (you go over a bridge at MK). And of course there's all the hotels around that area to look at like the Swan, the Dolphin, the Yacht and Beach Club, and Disney's Boardwalk.

So how much is the first half hour?

On my last trip (January 2005), a buddy and I did the speed boats from Ft. Wilderness. Had a great time, but I think an hour was too long. If I do them again, a half hour or 45 minutes will suffice just fine. Looking at River Country was so sad, since it looked so empty and I remember loving that place as a kid. I asked if we would get wet, and they told us no. With my luck, of course I did, though my friend didn't. I rode a little to close to a large passing boat, and my lap was covered with water. Fortunatly, my cell phone or camera weren't harmed, as I imagined they would be.

Always remember the bigger boat has the right of way. My tiny watermouse got caught in the ferry wake. Not fun.

These are one of my Must Do rides when we visit. Until my last trip, we always rode on Bay lake and had a blast, but this time, we stayed over at the Caribbean Beach Resort and road the boats there. It was a good time since it was my 3 yr old's 1st time, but they were alot slower than the other boats, but he had a smile as wide as the lake.:D

Funny story, once I was out on Bay Lake, I had a boat that kept stalling, because of the gas can crushing the fuel line, and I had to keep restarting the boat. The last time I restarted the boat before I got a new one was when it stalled just where main ferry boat passes over the roadway, couple hundred yrds toward the Magic Kingdom Side, I was turned around pulling the starter rope and all the suddern I hear the ferry blast it's horn and looked up and there it was, a few yards away. :lookaroun Like a scene from a movie, it took a couple good pulls to get boat started and out of the way. Left me a lot closer than I wanted that day, I can tell you that. Thats when I decided to get a new boat.

Someone above mentioned Yacht and Beach. The Water Mice (now officially SeaRaycers, but I haven't heard anyone actually call them that!) at that location (Carribean, too, I think) are fixed so they can't go as fast as the ones out on Bay Lake. The lake and waterways around Yacht/Beach/Boardwalk/Swan/Dolphin are smaller than Bay Lake.

For a while, when they raised the height for drivers, the height was still lower at Yacht & Beach because the boats were slower. I think they eventually made it uniform across property, but I'm not certain.

The speedboats (aka watermice, searaycers, or whatever you want to call them) are a blast! I've done them on every waterway at WDW. Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon are the best because you have so much more room on both of those bodies of water and there is so much to see. Another fun one is to rent from Port Orleans or Downtown Disney. The other places aren't really quite as worth it because you don't have as far to go.

My husband convinced me to do the speedboats the last time we were there. We did the ones at Yatch and Beach Club. I was terrifed...

There's a lot of traffic from the big ferry boats carring people back and forth from MGM and Epcot to the hotels. I was so scared that I was going to get run over. Because of my fear I kept going too close to the edges and getting stuck in seaweed. I looked like such an idiot. I was screaming and pitching a fit - meanwhile my husbands racing circles around me grinning from ear to ear in his little boat - he loved it.

The area by MGM was cool. That was the only place where I actually relaxed and enjoyed the boat. I got brave and picked up some speed and it was fun.

Just so you know - you can not go back in by Epcot and the International Gateway. You will only have access to the area between Yatch and Beach Club and the Broadwalk, over by the Swan and Dolphin, and then around MGM. It's a good amount of water to cover though.

And docking the boat - well that was fun... I crashed into a wall. The man bringing us in was screaming, "she's gonna hit she's gonna hit!!!" I wanted to kiss the ground when I got out of the speedboat.

It would be cool if they made the speeds uniform around property. I love the ones @ the MK resorts just because they ARE faster without a doubt. I was so peeved too b/c for like 2 years I went on the ones @ the Yacht and Beach Club and they were soooo slooooow.
