What Monty said. Personally I always use a CC. As a general rule there is much more fraud protection on a CC vs. a debit card and in the rare chance that something does happen you are not out "real" money.

Also, in either instance the limit on your room charge is *not* pre-charged or held in any way. So while you may have a $500 limit at a Value, you don't need to have $500 available on the card that you give them.
The only time that the amount needed on the credit card becomes an issue is either when you max out the limit and they need to dump the charges to your card, or the night before checkout when they go to charge all the purchases to your card.

So you could give them a debit card, only have $100 available in your checking account, but if you only charge $25 to your room you're all set, and that's all that will be charged to your debit card when they process the charges the night before you check out.
But, if you only have $100 in your checking account and you charge $300 to the room, you'll have a problem (and probably a voicemail from the Front Desk) and you'll have to go to the Front Desk and arrange another payment source.

Also, if you hit your limit as set by resort the CM can call the resort and you would have to talk to someone at the front desk and then they can extend your limit.

When I stayed at POFQ, my limit was $1500. They just connected it to my credit card. The lady told me if I was to use my visacheckcard, then it would have only been $1000. I would play it safe with asking them if you are unsure.

Be sure to ask when you check in about Debit cards. In most instances when you use a debit card the hotel will draft an amount on the card at check in. It is like a pre-authorization and then even if you go and pay with cash it can take up to 10 days for those funds be released from the pre-authorization and available for you to use again.

Disney does things differently when it comes to cards on their accounts so I would just double check.

I hope you have a GREAT trip!!!

Really? When we went in April, we were told the debit card was just connected to our keys and if we reached the limit, or got close, we had to come to the front desk and pay it off, which we did.

I watch my accounts like a hawk and never saw any pre-auth charge at all. Only charges I saw were the actual purchases.

But, like you said, ask Disney..

Disney doesn't place a hold or draft that amount from your bank account. Period. I realize, as you say, that it DOES happen in MOST instances, but WDW resorts are definitely NOT one of those instances.

Disney does things differently.

They don't treat a VISA or MC branded debit card any differently than they treat a credit card.

WHen you give plastic to back up a room charge, they run a charge for zero dollars and zero cents. This is known as "pinging" the account ... they do this to make sure it is a valid card connected to an active account. But AT NO TIME (during the process of setting up the room charge) do they check your available balance or available credit.

Fact, not opinion.
