Anyone else have a guide book obsession?

I LOVE coming on here and I find that talking to people about their experiences and getting suggestions, has been the most helpful thing when planning my trip. But there is something satisfying about having a big chunky guide book in my hands :)

Do you guys have a big old stack of WDW guide books that you refer back to when trip planning?

Haven't purchased one in a few years, but sites like this really help. We did stop to browse the travel section as we were heading to the checkout tonight at Barnes and noble. It's always nice to scan that section in the bookstore.

I have every WDW Birnbaums guide from 1982 on. They're an awesome read. Plus, they've gotten quite a bit thicker over time--the 1982 doesn't even have an Epcot section.

So, yes, it's safe to say I have a guidebook obsession :D

My first (planned) trip, I bought every guide book the book store had, lol. It was excessive. :)

I still get a new UG and Birnbaum every year. I can't help myself. If that "Intervention" show every does a Guidebook segment, they can use me.

The information I get on this site is wonderful, but I too, enjoy actually having a big thick book in my hands to read. I would consider myself a WDW vet...I know tons about the parks from numerous trips, but this trip is our first on-property stay, so I want to know everything there is to know before we go. WDW and reading are two of my favorite things in life, so I think it's only natural to have a stack of Disney guides by the side of my bed.

There's a time period after we get back from WDW (I call it my mourning period!) when I just can't look at the guide books - and I usually stay away from this website, too. Just can't take people talking about how they're in the park, just got back from the park, or are excited about going soon, when I know I won't be back for a year or more. I unpack the guide book from my suitcase and return it to the book shelf. Too sad. :( But after a couple of months go by, I slowly start checking this site to see if there's anything new . . . and before I know it, the guide book is back on my nightstand, and I start planning the next trip! But, I always have to go through that process. Weird.o_O

I buy a new Passporter each year! I always fill in all the pockets in the back with memories, and fill them with souvenirs from the trip, so I need a new one for the next trip. I agree, it's satisfying holding onto that book & planning a trip. :)

We buy the latest Birnbaum's Guide and Unofficial Guide when we are going down and then we keep them as souvenirs. It's kind of fun to look back at the older editions and see what has changed in the World.

I have every possible guide/reference book thats been printed:p My Disney book shelves are full of all kinds of Disney related books ( Help!!! I need more shelves :p ). But I always keep going back to gaze through the Passporter and Unofficial guides. Sometimes I crack them open just to look at the map sections and imagine walking the routes. Other times to look at the assorted photos, look at the ride ratings, recall a statistic I've let slip by. One thing I've learned however is to NOT loan out any of my precious Disney guides cause I've had them disappear.

I just bring back one guide map from each park and keep them in my car. At home one of the kids will grab them and I'll never see them again. I'll break them out when I am alone so the wife doesn't start with her "you are just crazy." She loves Disney but she says I take it to another level. I also keep my KTTW card in my wallet. A piece of Disney is always with me.

Definitely!! Even though there really isn't anything new the books can tell me, I'm still willing to pay 24.95 for a passporter, and I always hung down the latest version of the unofficial guide on amazon, as well as my favorite, The Complete Walt Disneyworld. I love to just look at the pictures and read through reviews of attractions, etc.

People with a WDW guide book obsession might want to check out these maps of Cancun and The Riviera Maya sometime. They're really cool - all the hotels, restaurants, and attractions are indicated on the map, and the creators have pacled an amazing amount of info on the two sides of the map. They're really fun to read and familiarize yourself with. I became quite familiar with the Riviera Maya map even though I've never been there. And the Cancun one was very handy to have on our two trips to Cancun.

After looking at their site, I see that there are some other maps I'd forgotten about, like the Isla Mujeres map, which was also very useful, and they've added a few new maps.
