Disneyland in California is much smaller than Disney World. It only has two theme parks: the Magic Kingdom and California Adventure. Off the top of my head, I can think of these attractions that the two have in common..

- Space Mountain
- Haunted Mansion
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Big Thunder
- Splash Mountain
- It's A Small World
- Peter Pan
- Snow White
- Dumbo
- Tower of Terror
- Star Tours
- Autopia
- Monorail (it's a ride more than anything at DL; it stops in Tomorrowland)
- Innoventions
- Astro Orbiter

DL used to have a Peoplemover (TTA) but that was taken out for the Rocket Rods, which is also now closed. I hear a Buzz Lightyear ride is taking over the old Circlevision theatre (which was part of the Rocket Rods queue). DL's Skyway is gone also. I hear rumours that their Submarine lagoon may open again soon with a new attraction. If you are interested in the DL of yesteryear, visit Yesterland.com

Also, keep in mind that DL has a lot of attractions that WDW doesn't, such as Alice In Wonderland, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Canal Boats of the World, Pinocchio's Daring Journey, and the Matterhorn. Disneyland also has another land, New Orleans Square.

I personally think that WDW is better, but DL has a character all it's own and it is, of course, the original. I'm not the best source on DL right now since I haven't been there since 2000 and so much has changed since then; I've never even been to DCA! If you have the opportunity to visit Disneyland, do it. You feel a special kind of magic being in Walt's original park. But I still think WDW is bigger and better.

The end.

You'll also find Muppetvision 3D and It's Tough to Be a Bug at DCA. Overall, I liked Disneyland a tad better than WDW's Magic Kingdom. The park is smaller, but there is more attention to detail. POTC was much better at DL than WDW as was It's a Small World and Autopia. Haunted Mansion, JC, Snow White, and BTMRR are roughly the same, with a few minor differences. Indiana Jones ride system is better than Dinosaur. Don't forget that the original Tiki Room show is at DL. You also have The Matterhorn, Alice in Wonderland, Pinnochio's Daring Journey, Mr. Toad, Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin, and Storybook land which are not present at WDW.

WDW's parades and fireworks are better than DL's, but you get to see the Electrical Parade over at DCA.

If it gets the greenlight, it won't be ready until spring 2007 (read that today on MiceAge and they get alot of inside info).

my opinion

Of course it is WDW (the Best) but I haven't been to DL since 88. WDW is larger and more spaces out not packed in one little spot. but that is my opinion.

Disneyland is my home. Therefore I love it much more than WDW. Though WDW does have the "oooh, that's BIG!' factor, Disneyland has the Cast Members who actually go out of their way for the guests. Trust me on this one, I was subject to SEVERAL rude CMs on my visit to WDW, at least four in each park. The others just didn't seem too interested in being there.

In any case, Disneyland is NOT called Magic Kingdom here. It is simply Disneyland.

Disneyland is MUCH better than the Magic Kingdom, IMO. The theming is much better, as are some of the rides (PotC, HM, and IaSW come to mind), and the atmosphere is just great. :D

You took the words right out of my mouth! Disneyland may be smaller but the attractions are better. For me...If i were to image IaSW, PotC, or HM in my mind...I recall the Disneyland's attractions. (even though i've only been to Disneyland twice)

I'm from FL and my favorite park is Epcot, so for me, Disney World is my favorite simply because Disneyland doesn't have Epcot. Disney World is obviously much bigger, so you have the ability to have a long vacation, with plenty to see and do, and never have to leave the Disney grounds. As far as the actual parks go, Disneyland is fun. It has New Orleans square which you won't find at DW, and the Matterhorn, and some other things that are unique to DL. Their Pirates of the Car. is really neat, it has a restaurant overlooking the ride and is very nice. Their Haunted Mansion Holiday is great, just happened to go when they were doing that and loved it....very detailed and well done. Their Small World is really neat too, nice setting. You don't have much monorail to ride at DL. It's more like a park ride than it is transportation. Overall though, it's a great park. California Adventure was really nice too. It has alot of things that MGM has mixed in with things you can only find at that park. Soarin' Over Cal. is so cool, I must have riden it a dozen times, can't wait for that to open in Epcot. Hopefully they'll add more and more to DCA over time. I think it'll end up being a really nice, layed back kinda park. Overall, I prefer DW. More to do, more all-inclusive, and like I said, I love Epcot, so I'm biased there. But Disneyland is where the Magic began, so you have to go at least once!

I actually am one of the few people who don't feel that they are comparable in too many ways.Which is "Better" - but how do you define better? Is bigger better? In that case, WDW wins out. Is "better" defined by overall experience? In that case, it's a tie for me. Is "better" defined by attention to details? Than DL does have that over the MK.

So it's all in how you define it! Even the attractions that the MK and DCA and DLP have in common are slightly - if not nearly completely - different.

I grew up with DLR and still am an annual passholder who tries to go once a month. But that said, the feeling I get when I make my "pilgrimage" to WDW is completely different. Both are very magical, but when I go to WDW, I find I don't spend as much time in the MK as I do in the other parks.

IMHO, both are worth a visit! :)

I totally agree with Ladydarling! It is just in the way you want to compare! Having grown up at DL (I refuse to call it DLR), I have a slight sway towards it. Since I moved to Georgia 3 years ago I use WDW for my Disney fix. Been there aprox 13 times in that time frame. We love the water parks, Epcot and the resorts, but the size of WDW makes it almost cold, You just don't have the warm cozy feel of DL at the MK. Granted is very different once you walk out the main gate. Please don't get me wrong I love WDW :) But DL still has that Walt walked here feel that is just missing at MK!

I am starting to plan a trip to DL for the 50th! I want to see all of the work Matt has been doing there! Matt needs to go to WDW when he is done restoring the MAGIC back at DL :sohappy:

A day at either is the best day you can have :D

Personally, I like DLR much better. WDW has a lot to see and do, but its really spread out and hard to jump from park to park. DLR has a different feeling than WDW. Put thats my opinion though.... :D

Both places are great on their own right.

WDW has alot more to do which is great and I love Epcot, MGM, DAK, MK, they're all great. But as maliboomer said, its more spread out and takes longer to jump from place to place.

DL is closer together and easy to navigate. It has the personal Walt Disney feeling in it, knowing that Walt himself actually walked these walk ways. DL by far has much better versions of IASW and POTC. Plus New Orleans square is a great land. Plus they have a better and bigger Toon Town. However, the DL resort has suffered over the past couple of years on bad management making the magic go away. However, Matt Ouimet are on the job to restore it to health. DCA though, is in need of much improvement and the DL tomorrowland makover is just HORRIBLE! Hopefully, it will get fixed up soon.

Over all, I just LOVE both Disneyland and WDW just the same. :sohappy:

Overall, I prefer WDW because it is truly (in my opinion) the ONLY place on earth where you can go and feel completely immersed in the magic. Also, of the attractions that exist at both places, although some are better at DL, I think most are better at WDW. Space Mountain, Pirates and Haunted Mansion are all much better at DL, but that's about it. A lot of people find IASW better at DL, but I wonder if that's more because of the exterior and less because of the attraction itself.

In any event, there is one area in which DL does have a major edge....It's cast members are vastly superior to those at WDW. I didn't use to think so, but the last three times I've visited WDW, I've been treated outright rudely by cast members there. Two of those incidents, by the way, occured in the loading area of Space Mountain. I don't know what it is about that attraction, but it has the rudest cast members anywhere. It must be a stressful attraction to work on or something. But if that's the case, they need to either re-design the loading area or do a better job of screening people for that job.

Well, in my honest opinion, Disneyland excels when it comes to individual attractions. But for the overall effect, MK wins out. It's nice to give the attractions the space they deserve as in MK, unlike DL where it seems as if they're just crammed in next to each other. The various lands also flow much better at MK than at DL. However, if you compared versions of different attractions, then I think DL wins out. For instance Pirates and Haunted Mansion at DL are much better than their Florida counterpart.

And I don't even count DCA in this because I just don't think it's worth mentioning in the same breath as the other two parks.

I don't even think it's worth mentioning in the same sentence as "Disney" (which makes it kind of hard to say the name).

It's great to see where the magic started. DL was a ton of fun and DCA was pretty neat, but it seemed half the park was closed or "under rennovation for your future enjoyment".

It is a bit of culture shock to see it when you first walk up. It just doesn't ahve the same grandeur as when you approach MK. But once you step out on to Main Street in DL, it is pretty cool. You can see Walt's apartment with the light always on in his memory. There are REAL things on Main Street, not like the commerical Main Street in MK with nothing but one continuous Disney store to fleece your pockets.

But seeing how small the castle is as compared to seeing it at MK all the time is certainly a shock!

It is DEFINITELY worth it to go see DL, DCA, and spend sometime at Downtown and seeing the other hotels. While it is all certainly a microcosm of WDW, it is after all still Disney!
