anybody ever use an airline credit card points reward offer to fly?

A friend just got back from the world with his family of 4 and said he used southwest because of a deal given to him. upon sign-up he was offered 50,000 points if he spent $2000 on his new credit card within the first few months, which was enough points to fly his family round trip from Hartford, Connecticut to MCO.

JetBlue seems to be offering a similar deal with their TrueBlue card, get 20k points upon sign-up and spending $1000 within 3 months. Naturally, I would spend the $1000 on the card on a portion of my trip (november 2014 btw) and get the points. according to them 10k points in enough for a round trip ticket, so essentiall my wife and i would get the two flights and we would pay for the kids.

has anyone done something like this? how do i go about such a thing?

We fly SW on points quite often. We use our SW card for monthly expenses that we would be spending anyway (groceries, gas, etc) and our points accumulate pretty fast. As long as you are paying off your balance every month, so that you're not paying interest, it's a good deal.

I used airline points to fly to Europe on Delta and visit Disneyland Paris last year. Will be using points to fly American to Tokyo to visit Disney Seas next year. Almost all of these points came from credit card airline points, many though special offers such as you are talking about.

I used my frequent flyer miles and flight vouchers from lost bags on a previous flight so that my round trip airfare for this Disney trip is $12.50

We've booked flights on both JetBlue and SW using their rewards credit cards. It was pretty simple and neither one has any black-out dates or restrictions on how you use your points to book reward flights. We're canceling the SW card so we can "put all our eggs in one basket" with JetBlue in the future, but the sign-up bonus and rewards points on our SW Visa paid for four flights and 2 nights' hotel stay -- giving us over $850 in value in exchange for the $100 annual fee we paid. During the same time period, we earned $600 in rewards flights from JetBlue Amex in exchange for a $40 annual fee.

We fly SW and United frequently using miles. If it weren't for miles we wouldn't be flying nearly as much. I prefer SW as they don't screw with your itinerary once booked like United does. I'm really surprised more people don't do this.

We do the same with SW because of the baggage fees.

Same here - use card for all expenses pay off in full every month points pile up really fast
