We're booked at the Poly in 6 weeks and I am getting concerned (again). I guess I thought most of the construction was over with, except for upcoming East Pool redo and Tokelau. But I just saw a bunch of pictures on FB that have me seriously reconsidering staying there! There's scaffolding all over the GCH and tons of fencing all around (looks like). I have a decent rate but I don't want to stay in a construction zone. Anyone been recently?

I visited for a few minutes on Friday night, and it's beautiful. The area around the entrance is finished, the lobby is completely finished, the pool is finished, and Trader Sam's is finished! I didn't see much construction, but I was in the main area of the hotel. I stayed there in July 2013 and it was so much fun, I couldn't wait to come back. So, I stayed there in December when it was COMPLETELY under construction, so I understand why you wouldn't want to stay there if it was (because it was not pretty, my friend). But it looks gorgeous, and I think you'll have a really nice time :)

Only construction I seen was down along the bungalows and the villa area. Rest of the resort looked finished. That was about a week ago. I did hear something about the quiet pool closing soon though, but main pool is open.

Was a lot of exterior painting going on and they were installing lights along the walkway to the bungalows.

I so glad to see this post - we will be there in about 5 weeks and I was starting to question my choice..:( but now I'm relieved and counting down the days!

I walked the Poly grounds yesterday. There is still a construction fence around Tokelau, and around two sides of the quiet pool, though the quiet pool is still open. But the rest of the resort is beautiful and welcoming as always, and Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace is a great place to relax and soak in the atmosphere (as well as a drink or two!)

I was there last Thursday enjoying some Lapu Lapus before taking a tour of the bungalows...nothing seemed intrusive or annoying. Trader Sam's looked especially awesome...if you're down for that sort of thing, I'd recommend getting there right when they open. I tried sneaking in there at 4:30pm (they open at 4) and it was already an hour wait.

What drinks did you try? I'm actually looking forward to trying some of the food there

I had the Spikey Pineapple and it was delish! Hubby had two Kona Longboards but said he should have tried the Kona flight. DD ordered and finished the 2-person Nautilus...it was "a lot of rum" (her words) but she enjoyed it. She would probably try something else next time.

We shared the chicken lettuce cups, pork dumplings and roasted chicken and pork pate sliders. All were very tasty. I especially like the baguette-like roll the sliders came on.

Is there a specific room area or building you all would recommend? We have a florida resident rate as it is so Im not sure if they group that into a specific section or not..were not concerned with location per say but are all the rooms the same now no matter where they are located?..and or if you check in online does it give you an option by name of the building etc? Thanks

If you booked a standard garden view, Rarotonga is most centrally located and convenient to pool, dining and transportation.
