I've been going to Disney practically every year since 1974. I've seen the immense changes, some great (MUCH improved dining options), others less so.

Any old school Disney people remember some long-gone attractions and restaurants? If you're the sort of person who remembers the Disney Inn, Fiesta Fun Center, Tangaroa Terrace, If You Had Wings, the Pueblo Room, Top of the World, and Discovery Island, then I'd love to share your memories.

It's a pity that WDW has surrendered some of the enthusiasm and natural corniness (that's not a bad word) for the sake of offering diversions best enjoyed in your own big city (does Disney really need a Virgin Megastore, Wolfgang Puck, or McDonald's)?

Let the memories begin........

Oh my gosh! i remember Top of the World!!! my aunt and grandma took me. i was very young, like maybe 5, and i guess they got a lot of funny looks for taking such a young kid to top of the world, but they did, and i was better behaved than a lot of the drunk adults :)
i also remember discovery island....i think thats where my love for animals came from...i could sit there and watch those animals forever....i also remember a very large turtle....please remember i was born in 1985 and most of these things were early 90s type things so we're working with a kids memories now :)

i miss some of those old things...but i love wolfgang puck!!

I never went to Tangaroa Terrace, but I am very interested in that place. The Polynesian sill keeps that place open, and I always peek in there to see it. Kinda spooky since it is usually totally dark with no people (only the bathrooms there are in use on a regular basis).

It's not that I don't love most of the new ideas and attractions, it's just that I hate to see old fun go away. It seems that on every trip to WDW I'm telling my son about something that used to be at WDW that is gone. So far 20K is the biggest that I wish he could have done. Well that and the fact that people seemed to be better behaved then they are now.
