I was thinking of doing Kona for breakfast around may 14th or so.. but I don't think i wanna go there if its overlooking a bunch of tarps instead of the normal flower fountain..

Any idea when they are going start on the lobby?

I am only seeing the most recent update on April 14 on tikimanpages.com
I was there twice for breakfast Easter weekend. Entered thru the lobby and walked up and down stairs. The water and flowers, still there. Just the back Capt. Cooks closed off and Wyland gallery but you could still use the restrooms. The temporary fast food area is under those steps and looks like it might have been the former cast member break area???. Kinda depressing being so enclosed. But upstairs monorail and restaurant was fine.
Hopefully we will get more current updates. I can't believe the price for the POLY rooms with all this construction!!!!
I was able to check out the construction on the monorail, and the ferry and the water taxi and walking around. It was very interesting to see all the angles. I haven't taken the T&TC ferry in ages I forgot how much fun it was until the crowds and long lines form anyway.

It has already begun and will be done in stages. They are working on the entrance and Captain Cook's and dill move throughout the building over the next months and into next year. The temporary Captain Cook's is the staff break area.

There are some delays in starting some of the work inside the lobby. Originally they would have already started working on the temporary check in location just inside the door and the water feature would be walled off but I am told that the projects are delayed. Some walls went up outside the entrance last week but they seemed to have changed focus to the east side of the resort with the closing of Tokelau to now convert it to DVC. Staff expects more to start in the lobby any day now but then they have been expecting that for about a month. Unfortunately this means they may not finish the GCH work by December as they had planned. There is some word that Kona will change to something else but they seem to be leaving ‘Ohana alone.
You should be ok with eating there in May but people that have reservations later in the year could end up having to change them.
