Will i need any ID like birth certificates to fly with my grandkids?? I have a 5 year old and 1 year old traveling with us. Do you ever have trouble with flying and ears for young kids? Someone said to give them Benadryll before we leave but I am not sure this is a good idea. Any suggestions to help this old Grammy out will be appreciated!!

I believe you need a copy of a birth certificate if they don't have any form of id. Haven't flown in a few years with the kids so I don't remember the exact procedure. As for the kids have then take Benadryl or Tylonol to make them sleep for the plane ride, or if you trust your 5 year old with gum, let him chew it during the flight.

No, you will not need to present identification for children to fly domestically. They will only need their boarding pass at TSA.

However, having their birth certificate and a signed parental permission / limited power of attorney wouldn't be a terrible idea. But, not required as long as you are flying within the domestic United States.

Not sure how long your flights are, but we never used Benadryl, and I don't think I would for a one year old. We've always had good luck flying with our kids, but conventional wisdom is to try to time the flight so they might nap on it, rather than timing the flight more to when you want to ideall arrive.

Good luck! However the flight goes, it will be over soon and the fun can begin!

Oh, I MIGHT consider benadryl if the child had any kind of congestion, because that can make the ear problems worse.

I never used Benadryl. When my daughter was an infant I timed giving her a juice bottle on take off and landing because the sucking kept her ears good. When she was 5 she was past that. I used more of a distraction (oh, look at that out the window) and she never thought about it. I always bring her birth certificate with me (even though you don't need it to fly) because it's just the two of us. If (heaven forbid) something should happen to me, there's some sort of ID so the authorities know who she is and belongs to. A parental note giving you permission to make medical decisions for the kids is an excellent idea. If (heaven forbid again) you should have to go to the Care Center because one of them are ill (been there, done that) they will need to speak to a parent before treatment. With the note, they will get treatment right away.

Are you taking the kids alone or will the parents be with you? If you are traveling without their parents I recommend copies of their birth certificates and a notarized letter stating you are allowed to travel with the kids and are the children's medical proxy for the the trip. They will most likely not be needed but better safe then sorry.

I would never give the kids unneeded medication it may not have the reaction you want. My grand mother gave me 1/8 of a sleeping pill when I was 6. I was up all night bouncing off the walls.

I flew with my daughter at 8m and 18 m and both times we just gave her bottle at take off and landing for the 5 year old gum or a sucker will work too.
