Any hope for Flight of Passage?

After my wonderful solo trip in January, my mom got the bug and she and I are now looking at going together in early October!

However, we likely won't stay on site. And she reeeaaalllly wants to ride FOP. (As do I, for that matter!) Is there any hope of getting a FP for Flight of Passage at the 30 day mark?

Last trip was October and unless you wanted to waste 2 or 3 hours the only way to do it was with a fastpass which was not available even 40 days out. You could keep checking over and over but it would be a little like winning a lottery scratch card, probably not worth your time.

As others have said you can do rope drop we decided to try that and even though we were staying on property and went when they had extra magic hours for AK the line was already over an hour and a half long when we got to it. Now we were able to ride the Pandora river ride as a walk on because everyone was at the FOP... but I wouldn't waste time on the river ride it wasn't even worth it as a walk on.

If you really want to ride it just accept that it will take a lot of your time. Your best option for minimal wasted park time is to find a day when they do not have extra magic hours at AK and then plan on getting there about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before the park opens and you should be close to the front of the line for rope drop... then run like mad and maybe, maybe you'll avoid having to stand in line for an extended amount of time... I know you've now been forced to stand in line 2 hours for rope drop but at least that way you don't waste time in line when a park is actually open.

Our last trip in November 2018, we did our three fast passes at HS, and sat down to take a break on a bench....

The wife and I both opened the app and tried for a FOP fastpass...same day...and it was already like 2pm ish.

It surprised us both, but we got it. Took about 5-10 minutes of refreshing page, but we got a 6pm fastpass.

never say never...

Keep an eye on park hours. If they get extended at AK, then around 24-48 hours later there will be a whole load of FPs open up. If you subscribe to Touring Plans you can put in the dates of your trip and they’ll notify you of changes to park hours - handy for getting a head start!

Keep looking anyway. If you can get Navii, you can try modifying that to see if any FoP ones are available (both are tier 1 so you can only hold one of them). If you don’t get an FP for Navii, then you can modify any other one. Be aware that you won’t see any if they overlap existing FPs.

Otherwise plan to ride first thing (arrive an hour before park opening) or last thing at night.

Possible but not likely. Your better option is showing up at rope drop on a non-EMH morning. Pretty much everyone will be making a beeline for it but the earlier you arrive, the closer to the entrance you will be. After they let you through the gate, don't wait. Go straight to the bridge leading to Pandora. That is where the rope will be. In my case, for a 9am opening, they let us through the gate at 8:30. And dropped the rope at the Pandora bridge at 9am. I still didn't board for about another 45 minutes. Most of that is because of the queue and the two pre-shows.

There's always hope...
Be aware that if you try rope drop, Pandora has opened before the rest of AK - and well before the posted opening time - in the past. When we were there two weeks ago we arrived at the front gate at 8:20 and Pandora was already open and FOP had a posted wait time of over an hour. Official park open was at 9am, and the rest of AK was not open while we roamed Pandora. NRJ was walk-on at that time. We did it twice, with the second having only a 5 minute wait. So many details to see on the ride I just had to do it again right after the first time. Then we explored the land, shop, and enjoyed a night blossom drink before our 9:40 FOP FP. Amazing theming!!!
Yep... They opened early for FOP when were we did a rope drop because we weren't aware of the earlier opening just for FOP... wasn't sure if they were still doing that earlier open I kind of expect it to be gone by now. But the CM when we arrived did tell us that people were standing in line for the rope drop 2 hours before they even opened for the early FOP opening.

I was the only person in my family that wanted to ride FoP, so I planned to rope drop it while they slept in a little bit and we got FPs for NRJ. I was in line at 7:15 for a 9AM park opening. Was done so quickly that I crossed the park and did a second rope drop in Asia for Everest, which I rode twice before heading back to Pandora to meet my family for our NRJ fastpass return.

Long story short, don't sweat the FoP fastpass - get them for NRJ and ropedrop FoP.

Um, "don't sweat"? You got there almost 2 hours before rope drop. That's kinda the definition of sweating it. BTW, I love your energy - sounds like you're an awesome park tourer!

The best chance to grab Flight of Passage fastpasses is when you are closer to your trip. At that time, people usually cancel their fastpasses because they can't go anymore for some reason. I did a very last minute trip last year and was able to get all the hard to get fastpasses by being proactive and checking the Disney Experience App. Got a little time at work? Check the app to see if anything is available. I got FoP fastpasses 2 days before my trip. I know other people who've had luck as well.

Long story short, be proactive and check the app to see if anything is available.

My advice would be a little different, obviously check the MDE for availability all day, but I would get in line at the end of the day, so any wasted time in line is off the books, meaning after they have closed, you maximize your park time and get on FoP

I also agree with this. Plus I've found that the line is shorter starting in the early evening. I just don't think rope drop is worth doing. I feel like you'll spend just as much time waiting before the park opens and then after the park opens when you rush for the line.

On our last trip this past summer, we got in line for FOP right before the park closed and only waited 35 min! Not too bad and you get to see the awesome queue that you would normally bypass altogether with a FP.
