Any Helpful Ideas?

Hi Everyone ~~

Looking for any good or helpful ideas for a birthday celebration.:D

Here's the deal: It's become a tradition that every year after my son's birthday we go down to WDW. (I personally love this tradition! LOL ) This year, we're celebrating my son's 4th birthday party on my husband's birthday (November 30th). We're leaving to go down to WDW on 12/8 and I wanted to do something that they would both remember (more so for my son than my husband....he is in the planning aspect of this whole thing as well). Anyway, my son LOVES Disney and we go down to WDW twice a year (I know, he's spoiled but he's our only child and it's what we want to do:cool: ). So, I found the Gifts of a Lifetime pixies on this site and emailed them but the youngest child that they will plan something for has to be 5 years old. So that's out.:brick:

So, now I'm trying to figure out something else that we could do to surprise our son. Every trip we go to Chef Mickey's so that wouldn't exactly be a surprise for him...it's kind of a given. I thought about contacting the Contemporary, where we'll be staying, and asking if I could get in the room earlier and put up some streamers and have a cake and balloons delivered while my husband takes our son for a few monorail rides. I don't know if that's kinda lame or what....I just want to surprise him with something!

What do you all think of that idea or could you help me out and give me some of your own ideas? That would be so appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!!

I'm a big fan of the Ice Cream Social at the Garden Grill over in the Land Pavillion at Epcot. It is character dining at 3pm, but they specifically serve ice cream sundaes!! (there is a whole thread in here on it). That might be a good option for a birthday surprise, that way you still get the characters. If you call for a PS, they should be able to tell you what they can do for a birthday. They do have other character meals at the GG, but, the Ice Cream Social is a different event, it is great, we really enjoyed it on our last visit and have recommended it many times!!

If you're already out of ideas at age 4 I'd hate to be you when he's 14. He'll expect you to rent out the Magic Kingdom for an evening (after closing) for him and his friends -- or a flight to the moon with Mickey.

Good luck.

Sorry, but this isn't going to be the answer you're looking for. At the age of 4 your son goes twice a year to WDW - its not surprising that you're struggling to surprise him, he probably knows the parks better than me. Its like taking my kids around the local supermarket - its just another thing to do instead of homework !!!

Hockeymom ~~ Thanks for the idea of the ice cream social:) It sounds like it would be a cool thing to do and I do appreciate you giving me the idea! :D

As for the other posts above, if we weren't DVC members and weren't using our points, we wouldn't be going to WDW twice a year! Also, we're AP so it's not like we have to buy tickets every time we go down there...we actually make out better going down there twice with the AP. (Actually we'll probably get three trips out of this AP so that benefits us even more!) Hey, if we can afford paying for food and a way to get down there, we don't see a problem with it. Sorry that you guys do!:veryconfu :hammer:

And it took me a heck of a long time to be blessed with one child so I might as well spoil him rotten!:animwink:

Thanks for listening!

My parents gave me this gift to me and my brother during the holiday season a while back. If he already knows that he's going to the world, well, then its slightly pointless....anywhoo, we got this box. It was nice and colorful and such, and inside it were two smaller, identical boxes, and inside that were two more, and inside that were two more, and each one had a 4 day park hopper in it. We had no clue that anything so awesome could be in a million boxes.

If you don't want to do something like that, I would contact guest relations and ask them. Each park's GR office has "Its my birthday" pins that kind of signals the CM's to give a little umph and go out of their way for your son.

If he's four, you could really surprise him and give him some variety of tranquilizer and when he wakes up, he'd be on Main Street USA. How'd you like that to happen?

Hey! That tranquilizer might not be such a bad idea for the trip down since we're leaving on a 7 a.m. flight, which means that we need to be at the airport by 5 a.m.! LOL:lol:

Thanks for your ideas....the box idea sounds cute but he does already know that he's going to Disney...sometime after his birthday...he doesn't know the calendar dates yet so maybe I could do something with the boxes and put a stuffed Mickey Mouse in it the morning that we're supposed to leave. He won't go anywhere without his Mickey Mouse!:animwink:

Cheryl -- thanks for the idea about badge...a CM told me about it that I can get it at City Hall or the Emporium right inside the MK so I think we'll do that. I was just looking for other ideas. I figured that someone out there had to be "kooky" enough to want to do something for their kids when they were that small. I'm slowly learning that you can't please everyone though! :hammer: Thanks again!

First, What else is Disney for.Take your kids at any age and and as many times as poss. ENJOY them!!
As for birthday. Last year we rented one of the boats out of the Grand floridian to surprize my daughter for her 10th. They take you to watch the fireworks or you can do one out of BC for iluminations. 4 year old may like fireworks. Anyway, they give you a cake, chips, soda and balloons. we had the whole family of 10 and it was a great night!:slurp:

:D Hey that sounds like a great idea as well! I bet your 10 year old loved it! Our son calls them "boom booms" still (he knows that they're fireworks) but absolutely LOVES them. One of the best things to do at Disney is see their shows at nighttime. Hey, do you have any idea of the cost of something like that? It was probably too long ago...I might just have to check that one out myself! Thanks for the great idea....I totally forgot about renting boats!!!:D

If you are thinking about decorating the room, you could try and get a piñata for him at the Mexican Pavillion and fill it with candy, then put it in the room. When I worked there, I sent one to a girl whose birthday was that day and had it delivered to her room along with a Donald Duck and his autograph. She totally loved it as her parents thanked me later when they saw me by coincidence at the Boardwalk two days later! So you can try that too... if not for your son, then for your husband! lol Ask Guest Relations, I´m sure they will be willing to help you out with that. :animwink:

Ah! And ask the cast members for the Goofy birthday song on the phone! :animwink:

Maria ~~

Thanks for the idea of the pinata from Mexico. Our son loves pinatas and usually has them at his birthday party. I would just be afraid that he might get too wild and the noise might bother people next door to us in the hotel room...but it was a great suggestion! I'm going to ask about that Goofy birthday song as well. I hope this all works out!

And sorry, our puppy is now 8 years old and we don't need another one! LOL Nicky wouldn't allow it anyway!

Thanks for your responses!:D

Thanks for the reply; however, the Giftsofalifetime will only do it for children older than 5 years old. :( It was a great idea but they just won't do it.:brick:

I think I'm just going to let my husband take our son for a couple rides on the monorail while I decorate the room with streamers and stuff that I'll pack and bring down...maybe go to the Disney Store out here and bring a "gift" and sign a card from Mickey Mouse for him.:animwink: Hopefully this will bring him some joy!:sohappy: If not, I'm sure seeing Mickey Mouse at MK will make him smile. :D

Autographed Cap

I'm sure your son has done the autograph book thing, but another cute idea is to buy a light colored Disney ball cap and have the characters autograph it. It's something he can wear & show off to his friends!

I believe it was somewhere around $150 for everyonething. But you can check with Disney Reservations. The BC, Illumination one was a bit higher and also abit hard to get...ENJOY! And yes she loved it. She was a bit afriad of boats at the time, That's another story. But, when she sa it was a party fo her..WOW! it was all worth it.:king:
