Just wondering if there has been any damage reports at either Vero Beach or Hilton Head. I was planning on visiting over Thanksgiving. Thanks in advance for the help.

The web page for Disney's Vero Beach says it is expected to open tomorrow, Oct. 10th. The beach is probably a mess, but unless the waves punched a way through the dunes, the resort should be OK as it is reasonably high above the beach and is nestled behind tall dunes well stabilized with vegetation. There could possibly be some flooding of the mostly undeveloped section on the other side of the highway.

Disney's Hilton Head Resort, on the other hand, probably has some flood damage. While it is on the bay side, not the ocean side of the island, the buildings are quite close to the bay. There was a lot of flooding on Hilton Head due to both storm surge and heavy rain..Storm surge will cause the bay to rise.

Someone who has a condo at Shelter Cove said that Shelter Cove didn't sustain as much damage as other parts of the island. On the DHHIR Facebook page, it was reported that some residents are being allowed back today. Which resort are you going to for Thanksgiving? If Hilton Head, see you there. We've been regular Thanksgiving visitors there for 11 years.

I live in Vero and I have not heard anything about Disney sustaining any significant damage. We were quite lucky as a town. Mostly tree damage. The big damage is from Daytona and up.
