Legoland California will open portions of Miniland, Fun Town, Ninjago World, Castle Hill, Imagination Zone and the Chima water park for a new limited-time event geared toward families looking for a place to let the kids burn off some energy during the coronavirus pandemic.

Build ‘N Play Days will run on select dates from March 5 through May 2 at the Carlsbad theme park.

Legoland California and other California theme parks are unlikely to return to full operation until spring or summer under COVID-19 health and safety reopening guidelines issued by the state.

Legoland is the latest Southern California theme park to launch a limited-time special event while waiting to reopening — joining Disney California Adventure, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain and SeaWorld San Diego.

Build ‘N Play Days will feature Lego building activities, adventure playgrounds, character meet-and-greet opportunities, live entertainment and food. No amusement park rides or attractions will be open during the event.

Kids can climb on playground structures in Castle Hill, Ninjago World and Duplo Playtown.

Creative endeavors include a Lego building activity in Fun Town and a design-your-own minifigure experience on the roof of the Miniland Model Shop. Sanitized brick packs will be provided.

Fun Town will have live music while Miniland will host a dance party and scavenger hunt.

Outdoor dining will be available at Smokehouse BBQ, Pizza Mania and the Beer Garden. The Granny’s Apple Fries and Churros con Chocolate food stands will also be open.

Guests who book a stay at the Legoland Castle Hotel will have exclusive access to the Chima water park inside Legoland during Build ‘N Play Days. The water park features a wave pool, water slides and build-a-boat station.

Legoland California is following the now-familiar “new normal” of COVID-19 health and safety protocols with mandatory face coverings, temperature screenings, social distancing and enhanced sanitization.

Build ‘N Play Days runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 5-7, March 12-14, March 19 through April 11, April 16-18, April 23-25 and April 30 through May 2.

Tickets for Build ‘N Play Days are $20 to $30 for general admission and $15 to $20 for annual passholders. Water park admission costs $10 extra. Parking is $5.<<

I’m confused by the article/press release. It states that guests at the LEGOLAND hotel get “exclusive” access to the Chima water park then later cites a separate ($10) up charge for the water park.

Is the water park is open for the general public at added cost or just hotel guests? I also find it fascinating that everything up to and including unmasked rides on water slides and wave pools are permitted under CA guidelines, but amusement rides themselves are still a no-go.

I could understand the argument for zoos, but water parks lol... 😂

Since Hotels are allowed to operate Pools under California COVID regulations, it has to be only Hotel guests.

And to help pay for the Lifeguards, why not add a Hotel Surcharge if you want to use it?

Yeah, it’s completely bonkers. If anything, it should be the opposite: amusement parks, yes. Water parks, no.

Got it. Thanks. That is helpful though someone without your level of expertise of the confusing CA rules may read that press release and assume they can just “upgrade” their Build N’ Play day experience to a water park day for $10 a person.

Hate it if there are disappointed kiddos (and/or angry parents/Karens) dressed for a day at the water park.

Got it.

So if you walk in off the street and try to go to the waterpark, you will catch Covid.

But if you walk in off the street and buy a night at the Lego Hotel and then go to the waterpark, you will not catch Covid.

Science & Data! And such is life in 2021 California.

But good for Legoland for figuring out a loophole to reopen their waterpark this spring! These places have to start making money again, or else they will simply fail to exist by the end of 2021.
