Annual Pass Question

I have a question about the annual passes. We heard that the finger scan is fake and is used just to scare guests into not letting others use their annual pass. Does anyone know if this is true? I'm just curious; not planning on using someone's pass or anything as I'm 20 hours away!

As far as I know it is Kosher. If you don't put your fingers in just right it won't let you in.

I've heard of family members accidentally grabbing each others APs but the finger scanner caught it. So I assume it's legit.

I heard it actually gives you a non-fatal shock. You know, just a little buzz to let you know it's not cool to use someone else's pass. Can anyone else confirm this?

I haven't experienced not putting my fingers in the right way, but then again I haven't had my pass for even a month yet. My grandma said though when she had one if she didn't put her fingers in the exact way she did after the first time, it wouldn't let her in. So im also gonna assume it's legit.

it's real - sort of

Based upon the experience of years and years of Annual Pass renewals and many, many visits, I think I can say that the biometric finger scan is real, HOWEVER, as with most biometric systems, the operator (Disney) gets to choose the margin of error the scanner will accept so that the false rejection rate is not too high. While this will allow for some false positives (Accepting the scan when it should not) it's probably better than the alternative - too many legitimate passholders using their pass not being able to gain access, and creating a backlog at the entrance gates.

By way of illustration, I guess my wife did not do such a good job of placing her fingers on the scanner the first time she got her first pass, and as a result, she was getting a high rejection rate, and we asked that her scan be re-set, and after that, it was MUCH better.

The first year I bought an AP, I had injured my hand and had a hard time pressing my fingers together when my fingers were originally scanned. Thereafter, I had to make sure I had my drivers license with me every time I wanted to use my AP, because the scanner could not read my fingers properly! The next time I purchased an AP, my hand was fine, and I had no trouble at all with the finger scan the entire year. My guess is that the finger scan is real; if your scan doesn't match what the machine is expecting, be prepared to show photo ID.

I would NEVER, EVER either let anyone else use my pass, or try to use someone else's! (Doesn't sound like you would, either.) :)

It is definitely not a fake. My GF's mother put my GF's annual pass in, then put her fingers in - No go.

When I had my annual pass, I had a couple instances were I didn't place my fingers just right and had to do it 2 or 3 times before it finally took and I could go in. So it's definitely legit.

We used 10 day hoppers on our last visit (exclusive to UK guests) - they work on a fingerprint recognition system. My M-I-L has arthritis in her fingers which prevents her fully extending them, the number of problems we encountered trying to get her through the turnstiles was beyond belief
