Announcements at Parks

I have read that Cast Members will not announce anything for personal reasons, such as if a child is lost, or if someone loses something, unless someone dies or is taken to the hospital so as not to distract the other guests. However, on my trip this year, I was at the lagoon dock of the Grand Floridian and I heard from the MK an announcement calling someone to come to the front gate. I am guessing it had to be something very important for them to announce it. What situations will Disney allow them to announce something like this?

I don't know what all the possible conditions may be, but a current coworker of mine used to work in guest relations at Disneyland. She said she was able to get permission to make an announcement a couple of times for lost children. But these were occasions where the children were seperated for several hours. I'll have to ask her, but I got the impression that announcements were more of a judgement call from management, than a set of hard and fast rules.

i too have heard announcements being made...most of the time at epcot...though it was years and years ago when i heard it. it's gotta be a weird feeling hearing your name being announced over a disney intercom!

anyway, i remember this one time, we went to epcot first aid to drop off my sister's insulin shot and there was a family in there reporting losing their son. i felt so terrible for them! i mean sure, if i had to be lost anywhere, i'd want to be lost in WDW...but still, it had to be awful for both the family and the kid! then again, he could've been having a blast riding all the rides he wanted to as many times as he wanted to! who knows? but i never heard an announcement that day, so hopefully they found him safe and sound soon after the report! poor tyke! but i remember, the family said that he was wearing a red shirt, and i wanna say that he was around 5 or 6 years old or so. so i kept my eye out for him ALL day that day...of course it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack!
