Different options...
There are definitely different options to work with these... Ask yourself first what exactly you want to do... Work with the actual mechanics of the puppets or devote more time programming them... or both? Myself... I want to do both... Computer engineering, computer science, software programming, mechanical engineering and probably a couple of others are something to look into...
I'm not an imagineer myself... but am interested in learning and working with the WHOLE 'package' of animatronics & robotics... so... selfstudy. Look at it this way: the theme parks are doing all the research and there is plenty of information leakage on the www so WE dont have too.
Did you check out my thread I posted about the Food Rock Animatronics for Sale??? Check out the pictures at
www.mousesurplus.com for sale in their e-bay store... they realy show great pictures of the hydrolic sceletons of their animatronics.
I found a perfect way to fill this need to work with animatrics and computer controlled props... Do something big around halloween in your community. (Unfortunately it's kind of costly, so find a sponsor - a private school ar community center, etc.)
After all the research I did I found these COOL websites...
www.BPESolutions.com - Animatronics, robotics, Technology (BEST SITE)
www.parallax.com -Microcontroller technology (Less Costly)
www.Mousesurplus.com - See what Disney was / is using.
www.Doombuggies.com - The Haunted Mansion inside and out. ('SECRETS')
Anyway... Good luck.... It's great stuff!!!
