Ok, I got my mind on this topic from another thread.
I am looking into persuing a career in animation (yes, preferrably Disney). And I am talking about traditional animation here. I have been since I was very young. I have been told I have talent, and I have been really sereious on looking into this, if it takes me 20 years to get a job in it. I was wondering what colleges anyone would prefer? I know that CalArts will probably come up, and, yes, I am looking into it, but for such a selective school, I figure I might want to consider going to a different art school first. I have lived in a small town for my whole life, and my High School only offers general art classes, which is fine and all, but it hasnt really helped with improving my technique. Ive had to do that on my own time, (which has consisted of a lot of copying and guessing). I have talked to several people about it, including an actual cel artist at Disney Animation in FL, and have learned to not go to a college to study animation, insted I should learn about realistic drawing, learning about basic figures and stuff so that I can develope my own style. I think the only exception was CalArts, since it is pretty much Disney's school. I am looking at the Kansas City Art institute, and the University of Washington in St. Louis, both of which I have heard to be good schools for art. Does anyone have any input they might want to give me? Thanks!
