Hey everybody!
We are leaving in 11 days(!!!!) and i remember there being a trail that leads up real close to the tree of life. Anyone know where this is or any other trail?
Thanks!

i wouldnt call it a hidden trail but the line for Tough to be a Bug weaves around the Tree of Life. thats the best way to get up close views of the animals on the tree. see you in 11 days

In addition to the ITTBAB queue, there are also the Discovery Island Trails that get you up close to real animals and also give you lesser seen views of the Tree of Life "animals".

There is still kinda one inbetween Asia and Africa. It is up the smoking path and it is almost at the point where if you don't know you are looking for it you wouldn't be able to find it. But it is great, it leads you up over a little creek and then down to the other side. One of those lost gems that they just kinda gave up on over the years.

Is there a map somewhere of all the paths all over Animal Kingdom? I know there are several around the Tree, and there's the smoking path and hidden one I could never find - I would imagine there are a few more and I would love to explore some of them more.

I would love to have directions to those paths or see a map of them. Or, maybe someone has a link to a satellite view of the hidden path in question.

I know there has been tons of discussion of this path in the past, but I haven't heard recently if the path still exists or not.

There are not actually a lot of hidden paths.
There are just a few very short "off-paths" (the one for smokers is about 50 feet long) and easily within sight of the main path.)

The only one big enough for me to call it a "secret path" (the longest one, for sure) can be found quite easily.

If you walk into the EXIT path of "It's Tough to Be a Bug" (wait until there is NOT a group just exiting after the show) and keep on going straight... past the theater exit doors... there is a very quiet path that takes you all the way to the "Africa" entrance.
There are birds and other animals on display, and a very nice waterfall as well.

Kind of romantic to be virtually "alone" right in the middle of a busy park.

This path can be accessed on either end, but its easier to find the first time if you just walk INTO the path marked "Exit" for ITTBAB.

(Good way to get across the park during the Jammin' Jungle Parade when the Asia-to-Africa main roadway is closed for the floats.)

Last time I checked, that one was reclaimed by the plants. If you'd like to fight off some huge spiders (Think Lord of the Rings!), go right ahead. I loved walking down that little path when it was easier to get too though.
The Tree of Life path your talking about is across from Pizzafari. Look for the little ODV cart, then walk over the wooden bridge. It's where the Tough to be a Bug line used to be. It's a pretty nice path for taking pictures.

Yeah when I was there in October I took a crew for a trip through there. But I must say it was cleaned up more then it was when I went through it last December.

The Animal Kindgom park maps do a good job of showing all the walking trails around the Tree of Life. Though on the map the Tree does block the view of part of the trail that goes around the back of it, you can still see where either end of the trail goes.

You just have to look at the map closely and realize that they're there. I think there might be ONE trail that's not shown on the map that made up the first part of the ITTBAB queue, back when the attraction entrance was across from Pizzafari before it got moved to near the road to Dinoland.

It's like the "secret" path between Toontown and Tomorrowland that goes between the train tracks and the Speedway. Or the "secret" park behind the Rose & Crown. Both are clearly shown on the park guidemaps, it's just that people don't often look at the maps closely enough to notice them.

This is the path in question and while it did exist right after the parks opening, it is no longer there. It was an unpaved path where one encountered a stream that you had to walk over by stepping on stones. I believe it was a temporary mini 'attraction' while the rest of Asia was being built AND/OR they widened and repaved the path and put in bridges and this is now the smoking area path between Asia and Africa. Perhaps it was once unpaved as you will see in the following pics.

http://www.themeparks.com/reportsarchives.htm#The "Secret Path"

here are more pictures of it way back in 1999. (scroll to the bottom of the page and then up a bit as they are the last two pics):

Last time I was at DAK I found a trail that was right after the otters when your walking torwards Africa.... I was suprised as it led me up really close to the tree of life with some awesome photo ops.... also winded past the back of the otter exibit and through some watery areas and out near the ITTBAB.

These simple "hidden" areas are what makes animal kingdom so cool to me. I wish that path in asia was still open.... I would really like to check that out next time im there!

Sorry to revive a months old thread, but this intrigued me. I had found info about this at http://www.themeparks.com/reports.htm and got all excited about finding it, thn bummed out when I found this thread and several people in it stated it is no longer there. Are we sure the path mentioned in the article in this link is the one that was on the trail between Asia and Africa? Are there others perhaps?

The path has been closed since sometime in 2001. I can confirm that as of January 2007 the access to the path has been blocked by foliage.

I think someone in maintenance is getting lazy.

How much trouble come it possibly be to trim back some bushes ?!

After all, according to Joe Rhode "It was there, he said, simply for people to discover on their own.. "

While it's not an E-Ticket, it IS one of the little extras that make Disney famous.

Pathways..

Yeah, I can confirm that the path is still there, and while there is some foliage there to block it, you can easily get around it, but once you get to the largest stream, you had better be a long jump champ to make it over.

The water levels have mysteriously risen in the area (might have something to do with Al Gore) and now the stepping stones (that were used to help you cross this river) are submerged by about 6 inches of water.

I wonder if there is an official answer as to why this path was removed. It is really beautiful back there.

Maybe they just want to make it even more adventurous. :D
Anyone know how wide the river is? (I don't think I've been back there)
