LOL:lol: Funny you ask... I get lost everywhere! I was born without a compass! ...but yeah... AK is my favorite park along with Epcot, and the one I went more times to, but it made me wonder everytime I turned: "am I going in the right direction?" It´s actually not that hard to get oriented in there... it´s a small park... but I guess what makes it complicated is that everything looks somehow the same. Not like in MK (where I also get lost  ), where you have different styles for each of the different lands and it is very specific, not like in AK. At least, that´s what I think. ;)

I was just talking about this tonight. I always get lost there. I know I have missed several attractions because I can't find them. I think it's because you can't see very far ahead of you. You can't tell where you are, so the map doesn't help. And the paths wind around so much. Never a straight path for very long! All this adds to your sense of total confusion. Maybe that's why it's hard to get used to.

Heading for the great escape.
After years of being involved in map production I can still say that the road system on WDW leaves me confused everytime. I think it is because i dont have a clear mental picture of the World in my head. The parks however are a piece of cake.
It must be a female thing, my wife used to get lost regularaly going to University. She even ended up in the Heathrow cargo terminal once cause she hadnt been looking at the signs and too busay yapping to her mate. A misjudgement of 18 miles.

The roads in WDW are pretty confusing, plus the directions they give you in florida aren't great. 'Just go along the road and turn left' we had turned left before we had left the airport, when we were meant to go 20 miles along the road. Ended up in Animal Kingdom at 1AM on our first trip to WDW. And we weren't even staying at WDW!

AK is the most confusing to find your way about, and i reckon MK is the easiest.

It's taken me a while, but I think I've finally got it down. I know the left side of the park almost by heart, but the other side (dinosaur, kali, ect) is still confuzzling because we don't do that side a whole lot. I get lost in MGM sometimes, back by Muppets.

Technically it is a female thing. You see... Men have a depost of a small amount of ferrous metal in their nose. It acts as a natural compass. This has given them a much more natural sense of direction...

However ladies, don't get too upset. You've got the better end of the stick. You can perceive more tastes and colors than men. That's why we cannot seem to appreciate certain things like clothing. We're naturally handicapped.

As a cool side note: There's a snack called Paffel that all women who've ever eaten it love. However to us men it takes the same as a nutty bar.

Battle of the sexes? Bah, we'll never see eye to eye :)

The first few visits to AK, I would get a little confused in certain areas. Now, I know my way around, because I memorized certain landmarks. Disney should have given AK wider paths.

Actually, I get lost every time I set foot in AK, but it may be simply that I'm not as familiar with it yet. The castle at MK and SE at EPCOT are just so easy to orient yourself by that it's tough to get truly turned around. Much of AK is similar, though, so it's easy to get disoriented. MGM was confusing the first few times I went, too, but now it's easy.

I find AK to be HOT, though - not enough shade!

from the first I had no trouble at any of the other parks, but every time I go in to AK .. I just end up going in circles around the tree!!

I'm great with knowing my way, I'm good visually, only need to see something once.

I don't like the way they have the Oasis, so once you go through the gates, people can get dis-oriented walking through all those plants.

I don't like the feel of AK and don't know if I'll ever, I promised myself I wouldn't completely judge it until we were in a couple phases.

I've never gotten lost in a theme park. Even on my first visit to AK back when it opened, I was able to walk through the whole park within 20 minutes or so, and find my way back to the entrance with ease.

It must be that bit of magnetized metal that us guys have... :)

I got NEWS for you guys..it isn't just a Woman thing.

The first time my wife and I went to Animal Kingdom we got totally turned around and confused.

We are better now that we have been there a few times since.

I think because there is sooooo much to look at all around you,
you tend to forget where you have been so when it's time to turn around and go back, you get confused. Now add to this fact all the trees and bridges and water bushes and everything starts to look the same.

Thank goodness for all the SIGNS!:animwink:

I'm embarassed to say this but I once got lost in the WORLD OF DISNEY store in Downtown Disney!!
It took me a few minutes to get my bearings and figure out which entrance I came in where my wife was waiting for me.:brick:

I don't honestly get how people can get lost in Animal Kingdom. Disney has added a LOT of signage over the past year to tell you where everything is. As for The Oasis...provided you walk STRAIGHT, it doesn't matter where you go...you will end up in front of the Tree of Life...you would have to physically make a 180 to get lost...once you get to the Tree of Life, the map makes it quite obvious that Camp Minnie-Mickey and Africa are to the left and Dinoland and Asia are to the right...and there are signs along the way, too...where are people getting lost? MGM...ewww...back toward New York Street...it took me ten years to learn my way around back there! There are so many dead ends! It's only been in the past 2-3 years that I've been able to find my way through there...back to animal kingdom! As for shade...there are trees roughly everywhere...if you take any of the nature trails, you will stay cooler...or go on Kali. As for the lands looking the same...Africa is quite distinct from the others...the Olden Gate Bridge is a sure sign that you are entering Dinoland, the Tree of Life tells you that you are on Discovery Island, Asia...not too distinct, but the music in any of the lands is quite distinct...and when the build Beastlie Kingdomme...hopefully the castle will make it quite obvious to you which land you are in...as well as the screams from Reign of Fire (in this case, the screams will work for the land...I mean...there is a fearsome dragon hiding there...)

I didn't get lost but I felt like I was at a zoo instead of a theme park and I overheard many others expressing the same feelings. If I wanted a to go to a zoo I can go in Detroit. They just don't have enough rides....

Maybe they'll build it up like they did MGM. Otherwise, I won't be going back to AK in a while.

But it's NAHTAZU!!!! Truthfully though it is very different than a zoo and they wanted to make a park that has a special meaning to Walt.
