Dont know if anyone has ever posted this... sorry if it is a repeat but In the AK on the Safari when you get to the lions (kind of looks like pride rock from the lion king), in the rock where the male lion always seems to be is an air conditioning vent so he will stay their most of the time to keep cool! Smart thinking huh!

Wow, I never heard about the AC vent. That is pretty smart. I did hear on a Travel Channel AK Special that the rocks have heaters inside for the colder times so the lions will come out. Smart people those imagineers :)

Yes, the Imagineers resorted to many different tricks to entice the animals into certain areas for better guest viewing, along with tricks to keep the animals a safe distance away from the guests without being visible/obvious.

That's not true.

The magic forcefield is currently down for rehab.

Oh goody! Does that mean we'll get "up close and personal" with giraffes, and hippos, and lions, and tigers? Uh, nevermind :lookaroun

The last post on this was a little while ago but I thougth I'd mention this. I don't know if it is a secret or not but while my roommate was working on the safari ride, there was a bad rain storm. Lightening hit one of the giraffes and killed it. He said they didn't stop the ride because of all the people so they left it there and just told everyone he was sleeping.

There are also plenty of hidden mickies around there so keep your eyes pealed. Just for your Gee Wiz collection, all that area use to be a flat orchard. All the hills have been built up. Only one original tree remains after the construction. It took just over a billion dollars to build. It's 106 acres big enough you could fit the Magic Kingdom inside the Safari ride.

It's bigger than that...

There are another 300 acres of land for the animals behind the trail itself. They keep the larger more aggressive animals back there and switch out some of the animals as well.

The three disney parks could all fit entirely inside the Animal Kingdom park as well.

I know this is a bit old, but when I was working the safari, they were giving the lions frozen rabbits to gnaw on. A few guests commented, but thought it was cool.
