One Little Spark...
Heading to Animal Kingdom Resort in 8 days. Savanah view studio at Jambo House. We have never visited the resort or eaten at the restaurants there. Any tips for staying at the resort would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1) Be sure to walk the savannah about 30 minutes to an hour before sunset (they will gate off most of the walk at dusk). When you go, walk to the left when you reach the fork. This will bring you to a firepit. Many nights they do marshmallow roasts here (they provide the sticks and marshmallows...free treat on the mouse!). Also, I was told they sell graham crackers and chocolate bars in the gift shop, so you can make smores if you pick these items up!

2) Definitely take time to check out the restaurants there. They are amazing. Boma is a great buffet (1 TS) and Jiko is a Signature Dine (2 TS). Jiko is hands down my favorite restaurant on property (at the moment), so I'd highly recommend it! Sanna is another non-Signature Table Dine (1 TS), which I've heard good things about. It is also right on the Savannah with massive windows. Think of it as the African Savannah version of Coral Reef in EPCOT. Mara is the food court (1 QS), though it has african / indian specializations, it also has the classic burgers and fries, etc.

3) Be aware that the buses make two stops at the resort, and Jambo House is the last for most busses. Also, many of the AK busses stop off through Blizzard Beach. Also, due to location on the property, getting to and from the hotel on the busses takes a bit longer, depending on your destination of course. It's not a major issue, but something to consider if you are using the busses to travel around property.

4) Take LOTS of pictures! The resort is one of the most beautiful on property (I think Poly and Wilderness trump it, but that's a matter of opinion!)

5) If travelling with kids 3-12, you can check them in at the CubHouse (I think that's the name)...it's a supervised childrens center...basically Disney does Daycare. There is a fee, but it allows you some alone time and a special experience for the kids.

6) If you are Club Level, you can do a special sunrise behind the scenes tour of the Savannah. There is an extra cost associated with this as well, but it's a neat thing to do that you can only do at AKL.

Enjoy your trip!

there are also some free activities to do, especially if you have kids. Ask about cookie decorating in boma (usually early afternoon) and other activities in the lobby for kids. If you are not doing club level, id ask if its available at check in. check the pricing. there isnt much of an increase from the savanna, plus the view is included. there are other perks as the previuos poster mentioned. Enjoy the great views!!!

When staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, do not pay for the savannah view. IMHO- you may request a "standard" room that actually has a "savannah view". Check out the map on allears.net. They also have menus and lotsa tips for staying at AKL.:D Also look around on here for reviews and such as well.;) Youtube also has good videos of the lodge. You'll love it!:D

My only suggestion is that if you like the stuff you see, walk the halls. There is a lot of nice stuff to see.

No balloons! If you buy them in the park, you can't bring it back to the hotel.

That's it. :) AKL is my favorite of the hotels. So warm, calm and peaceful. I hope you love it as much as I do. :)

Thanks for all the great advice everyone. Booked this trip last minute and we want to make sure we dont miss out on anything at the resort. We got a chance to watch the Samantha Brown video on Youtube and looked at some info for the restaurants. Needless to say, we are getting very excited.

Bring binoculars! We loved this resort - the Mara is easily the best QS restaurant at any resort IMO, and Boma breakfast was one of the best meals I've ever had on property. You can catch a shuttle to take you back and forth from Kidani to Jambo so you can use both pools.
