I remember reading a while ago a discussion on whether Animal kingdom should have some sort of nighttime event like the other parks. i remember some people saying that disney could not use fireworks because of the animals, yet i was just watching an old video podcast of wdw plugged in (the lauch party of expedition everest) and they had a fireworks display.

i was just wondering why disney have not opted to do this regularly?

Dak does not currently need to be open past dark everyday, if it does, than some sort of nightime draw may be needed. The Everst Pryo was really a test to see how the animals reacted. The animals did just fine, so the only remaining concern is pollution from the show, as they don't want pryo shells falling into animal habitats.

I have heard that hours may increase once the Nemo musical opens, but as of right now, it's not needed. DAK was designed from Day 1 for nightime use, so the lighting is in place, just only used for EMH.

Pyrotechnics going off every night would probably be very disruptive to the animals, messing up sleep patterns, eating schedules, etc... A fireworks show for a rare occurrence like opening EE might upset the animals for a short time, but they'd recover.

I really wish DAK had some kind of night time show... maybe something like Fantasmic with less Pyro but nice impressive effects.

The Everest opening was mostly colored flames coming up from the water with very little noise. Don't look for arial fireworks, they would disturb the animals.

As a few others have pointed out, who said that a nighttime spectacular needed fireworks? Though staging a fireworks show in the sky allows for optimal view from the various parts of the park; Disney likes a challenge and creating a show that limits or eliminates fireworks would be an interesting challenge.
One solution would create on big show that would incorporate each of the different areas. This way one could see the show from Camp Mickey-Minnie, but if they came back the next night the same show playing will feel different in Dinoland <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />USA.
But who knows what Disney has in store (if anything).
It's been over a year since I visited DAK and felt that it was a half day park for me. It was interesting, but I wasn't up to hanging around the park any longer. Maybe with the new additions it as increased the time at the park, let's see what happens with new additions to the park if it should extended their hours for a night time show or not.

I agree, but then in that case how about a fantasmic type of stage, stunt laser show? i dont think that would cause much harm since there are few fireworks in the show.

i love AK the way it is but if they did decide to do a show of a nite time then they could use floats on the river or something to that effect.

I would think that, as someone mentioned, fireworks every night would eventually be very disruptive to the animals there...at least, if any of the animals are anything like my dog! :( :animwink:

For some reason I thought they were actually not allowed to have a full on fireworks show every night due to the fact that at least *part* of AK is an actual zoo with real animals (as in, like, it's not allowed in zoos?)...maybe I'm wrong though.

To do a closing show without fireworks could be very interesting because it would be a lot different than the other nighttime shows. Why not a show hosted by Rafiki with animal characters representing each of the continents they come from. There could be an intro with large Chinese lanterns led by Mushu, an African drum segment with Timon and Pumba, etc. They could use a large firepit that rises out of a body of water for effects rather than fireworks. Perhaps it could wrap into a circle of life theme?

Whatever they decide to do, I'm sure it'll be cool.

Well, I think sooner or later they're going to have to come up with something, because I know they have more rides and attractions lined up for AK.

I think another main reason they don't have a nighttime show is that there isn't enough room for people viewing it. If it were fireworks over the Tree, the Oasis area would be packed! If it were something on the river (maybe an electrical pagent type thing), they'd have to clear more room around the river (and I think that would take away from the atmosphere, if they removed too much foliage.

Maybe something over the parking lot would be good. People could sit in their cars, and attach a little speaker to the windows, ala drive in movie, to pipe in the music and watch the show.

Hahaha....j/k

They dont necessarily have to do a show every night. I like both ideas heard, the one with rafiki and the circle of life and a laser show wouldn't be bad either, even though it is a little dated. One of my favorite memories is Epcots laser show when they ran the globe effect on SSE.

Well as somebody has said it doesn't have the amount of attractions for a full day (day time & night time) park, however I think when they get about 3 more attractions after nemo musical, then they would consider it.

But there should be at least 50% of the attractions open at a night time, seen as the animals would have to be put back in there ctainers to store the animals.

Then maybe a music, fire, and water show

That's a funny concept... all the animals going in containers at night... :lookaroun

Yep I'm sure that the flying animals all go into containers and a few of the larger animals do as well.

Its that or all of them go in, its because disney aren't going to let them fly off or get killed by other animals.

And as you all know what do you get if you remove the animals from AK you get the Jungle Cruise.

I actually think the extension of the river (TOL to Everest) would be a great area to do a water show. I think a combination of Bellagio and an Epcot-esque projection show (on a large water column in the middle) could be a wonderful way to utilize the space without major disruption. But, that all is contingent on increasing DAK's nighttime appeal. I think EE and Nemo will be HUGELY helpful. I think adding on a final land, particularly a Beastly Kingdomme or other "realm" where real animals are not included in the attraction will help complete it.
