My wife and I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time in October of 2006. We have stayed at other Disney Resorts within WDW but this one is beyond belief!
This is not just a place to "stay." The Animal Kingdom Lodge is an experience! From the moment you walk in the entrance doors to the lodge you feel like you have been transported to Africa. The staff is awesome, the food is scrumptous, and the transportation to the parks is great!
I would have to say that the most wonderful experience about staying here is your room. Not only do you have a wonderful view from your balcony but, being able to sit out there and watch the giraffe, zebra, and many other animals roam around is so peaceful. Oh! And in the room, there is this smell. Not a bad smell, it's an "earthy" smell, something you would expect to smell in Africa. I don't know if they pipe it in but it's a wonderful addition to the experience.
If you aren't worried about spending a good amount of money, this is the place to stay. For eight days, five day hopper passes, airline tickets, food, and gifts, the whole trip was about $6,000. BUT! Worth every single penny!
We go to Disney every year at least once and try to stay at a different resort. We are going in a couple of weeks for a quick trip, 4 days, and are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort for the first time. And we're going back in December but have not decided where we are staying that visit.
