I am almost sure that you don't have to stay at AKL to eat at BOMA. The resturant is super and I am sure that Disney wants to get as many people as it can to eat there.

AKL is my favorite resort!...and their food is good too!

I liked our Breakfast at Boma...and dinner at Jiko!

Make sure to try the Zebra domes! :slurp:

Even the Mara's food was good! I liked that Chickarandi Chicken Pizza! All of it was great!

When AKL opened, they had stricter security than at the other resorts. You couldn't get in without reservations at the lodge or priority seating at the restaurants. I think they did this to prevent the lodge from becoming a free zoo.

I'm not sure if it is still like this or not. Whenever I've eaten at Boma, I've always made PS. That is the safe way to do it, you might not be able to get in if you don't have them. I'm sure someone on the board will know if this is still true.

I don't want to be a wet blanket but honestly I didn't like a lot of the food at Boma. There is quite a bit of food for the money and the atmosphere is nice but I was disappointed in the taste of the African food. The American foods were good and the deserts were awesome but just a warning alot of the African food is very spicy.

Don't get me wrong I am glad I ate there...because I love different experiences but I would not eat there again. It's a matter of personal taste I am sure. The zebra domes do rock.

I agree the food at the Mara is good and the pizzas looked great.

I know you will have a great time at AKL.

We just got back today and spent the end of our trip at AKL. We loved Boma and Mara. We ate lunch at Mara-had the African Stew and Sugar Cane Chicken. Both were wonderful-they were on the spicy side but they have several other items to choose from. As for Boma I wish I could eat there again tonight. We had both breakfast and dinner there. Breakfast was great but dinner was truly delicious. They had so many things to choose from-prime rib, African flank steak, chicken, and a salmon dish. In addition there were salads, slaw, potatoe salad, fruit such as grapes, strawberreis, melons etc. and 4 different soups. I had the potaoe corn chowder soup- two bowls in fact. They also had many vegetable dishes and the desserts were to die for. There was a banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce, and the famous zebra domes. We were so full from stuffing ourselves we had to go back to the room to lay down. Some of the foods are spicy but they have other choices-chicken fingers, spaghetti etc. It is a chance to try something you might not otherwise get to eat and it is wonderful to eat there. Hope this helps:)

You do not have to be a resort guest to dine anywhere on property. They used to only give Priority Seatings to resort guests, but now everyone can get those too. Unofrtunately resort guests get no perks on dining.

Boma is buffet style, Jiko is sit down. If you like wine, try a glass (or a bottle!) of the South African wine called Pinotage, it's a type of wine like a merlot or a chardonney. There are different brands.
Be sure to take the hotel tour. They have a vast collection of African art that won't mean a thing to you until they explain the meaning of each piece. Take the time to explore & appreciate the beauty of the resort! It's like no other place.
