Animal Kingdom Lodge Or Port Orleans French Quarter

Which resort would you prefer, price almost identical (pretty cool) for 8 nights in September?

I have the AK Lodge on hold and we just stayed at French Q in April, but we really liked it.

I've stayed at Kidani Village, but not the Animal Kingdom Lodge main building. Which would you choose?

LOL, i already knew I'd get these responses, but I LOVE Port Orleans (perhaps nostalgia).

I think i just wanted to hear that objectively, AK Lodge is the better resort.
AKL and it's not even close.

Protip: Book Standard View, not Savanna View. Then request "Kudu Trail" in your online check-in. Odds are, you'll get a room on the savanna that's just slightly less than perfect (animal keeper staging area in the foreground) but you'll pay half the price.

Funny you said that because I had already planned the exact same thing on a tip I saw a year or so ago. The Savannah view is almost 2X/night, so we have a standard and I'll do that.

My only concern is I want a King bed, not 2 queens and it "can't be guaranteed."

What is the difference between the Savannas, and do you know how many there are? My room type says "View of Arusha Savanna" and other room types say "View of One of the Savannas"

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
AKL or Kidani wins any day over POR/POFQ. POR/POFQ is a great resort as well but in comparison with a deluxe ESP AKL/Kidnai the deluxe will always win. Also since you said the price is basically the same then that as well points to a no brainer to go with AKL. ;)

My choice French Quarter we love the atmosphere, the smaller resort, ect... This will always be my preferred resort if we are paying cash when not using any of our DVC points.
We stayed one night at POFQ last year- the only other availability was OKW. I chose POFQ for the size. It was a pretty resort and a nice ride to Disney Springs.

I know, it's pretty crazy the price is the same right? Over 8 days, it's $350 more total...so it's about $43 more/night. I'd say it's worth it. Plus, we just stayed at FQ in May, lol.

Ok, so if you just stayed a FQ then it is really a no-brainer. One of the best things about staying at Disney resorts, for us anyway, is trying different places.
No doubt, decision made! I hope they can accommodate 1 King bed. Sort of awkward to be in with your wife and have Lucy and Ricky beds, lol.

I put down the $200 to just hold it and I can make changes up until 8/10 if something else opens. Curious why AKL is so cheap at the moment? I know Sept is probably the least crowded month at Disney, particularly earlier in the month?

Don't get me wrong we really enjoy AKL it's secluded away from other properties, the food choices for the kids are not that great, we love the pool area and the larger rooms (DVC side). POFQ location is very easy to get to for the parks, we love the boat ride over to Riverside and DS, our kids love the pool, we love the smaller resort style, and it never seems to be so crowded like other resorts and we have stayed at POFQ in March, April, June, July, and October time frames.

Now the dining hall at POFQ is under a complete re-ferb so you will be forced to use the dining hall at Riverside or the limited items they have available at POFQ. So that might be a factor for you and your family.

I don't know if the refurbishment is completely new, but it wasn't under refurb when we were there in April. We thought the fried chicken and ice cream sandwiches at POFQ were some of the best on property. The fried chicken was as good as 50s Prime Time which I think is GREAT fried chicken period, not just great at Disney.

As you said, we contemplated FQ again because of the location, great food court, and tranquil ambiance.

We've been trying to book a room at AKL for September but couldn't find a good price,so we opted for PORS which was way cheaper. May I ask how you came across this rate for AKL or if it is still available at a cheaper price?
