I've had this idea for a while and it keeps nagging at my imagination. Maybe it's not Disney because there would be mature themes not suitable for children. Or maybe that's exactly the type of park Disney needs to fill a missing void.
The idea is a theme park with lands themed to ancient empires of world history. I imagine, for example, a Roman Empire section, where you feel like you've been teleported in time. Replicas of ancient Roman wonders, such as the colliseum, aquaducts, the pantheon, and even an actual working Roman bathhouse mini-water park inside the actual theme park. The colliseum would have live action stunt spectaculars minus real violence (of course). Lush statues and water fountains and grande plazas everywhere, like it was. A flume ride down an aquaduct. A chariot race attraction.
There would be ancient Egypt, with life-sized replicas of the pyramids and a roller coaster dark ride inside, a Valley of the Kings effects-laden walk-through haunted maze, a Nile River ride, a replica of the Lighthouse of Alexandria and a ride that takes you to the top, a replica of the Library of Alexandria with a dark ride inside.
An Ancient Greece section with interactive AA figures of the great philosophers in the backdrop of pre-ruinous Greek architectural marvels, as they stood, still shiny and "new". An amphitheater with live plays being performed continuously.
Other lands could be themed to ancient China, Mayan-Aztecs, and Babylon. There's so much that could be done. Such a park with be fun, entertaining, interesting, and also very educational!
