Planning on taking my second ever trip to Southern CA to go to DLR. My other trip was about ... 8 years ago. It was before DCA opened.

Anyway, besides DL and DCA, are there any other 'can't miss' attractions that are in the area that don't appear in the Orlando area?

I'll probably be there 6-7 days.

For example, are there any SeaWorld or Universal Studios attractions that are can't miss?

How is Knotts, is it worth a day out of my schedule?

Anything else I need to consider?

Errrr......no?

There's a Sea World down in San Diego....Orlando version is better.
There's a Universal Studios in Hollywood....Orlando verion is better.
There's the San Diego Zoo/ Wild Animal Park. Haven't been there in years, but it's big and sounds pretty good.
Knotts is ok I guess. The rides are fun but it's mostly gang-ish type people that hang out there....:lookaroun The only time it's worth going to Knotts imho is during halloween for Scary Farm.
There's a Six Flags, but it's out of the way...especially with traffic.
The Beaches here are fun and beautiful!
If you like baseball there's the Angels and Dodgers (Angels are better and are right around the corner from the DLR).
You can go to LA and shop, eat, stuff like that.

Gosh, I live here and can't think of anything else...I'm pathetic!
I'm sure more people will have a lot of better ideas.

Have a great trip and if you have any questions about the DLR (or SoCal), feel free to ask!

Lebrea (sp?) Tar pits
Hollywood sign
Legoland was cool
One of the beaches (Venice Beach, Hermosa Beach)

In all seriousness, there's nothing "near" Disneyland. Everything is a pretty good distance, I think Knotts is the closest.

I stayed offsite on my last trip to DLR and had a rental car - drove around several times jsut to explore and looked at all kinds of maps. Universal was far enough away that 30mins into the drive I gave up and went back to DL. Driving around California sucks big time. The freeways are hellish and everything is very poorly marked. They think its ok to place signage 3ft from the ground and to have exits with the same number but to different places on opposites directions of the road.

Don't even try to figure out the whole express/carpool lane thing. You'll likely miss your exit - they don't specify where they pop out, and they just assume you're ok with missing the 5 exits inbetween.

Seriously, all the roads there assume you know where you're going and where things are, it's not built for tourists at all. Try to find a burger. FL has signs telling you what's at each exit, Cali has no such thing.

Oh - and they have meters! You can't just get on an interstate, you have to get on the ramp, come to a complete stop, and wait for a green light to accelerate and try to merge into traffic - heaven forbid you accelerate on the ramp itself.

I'm planning a Cali trip in 2008 ... mostly for Disneyland but I def. plan to see other sites, especially L.A.

Staying off site ... if it's nearby, is it fairly easy to get there? I'm going to rent a car anyway, but would I need to drive there, could I walk? etc.... How far from DL is L.A., etc.... I know, silly questions but I'm curious.

They're not silly questions, I ask the same kind of questions about WDW.

How nearby is the hotel? If it's on Harbor Blvd or somewhere pretty close, you can walk right up to the resort (which is a lot easier than driving).

The time it takes to get to LA from DL varies and greatly depends on traffic (which is horrific in CA). There will most likely be traffic, so it'll take you anywhere from 1-2 hours.
