Amtrak tips (or a travel agent)

Hi all!

I'm going on my second ever trip to WDW with my husband this October. We want to take Amtrak again with a roomette, but the prices seem to have skyrocketed since last year. They now seem to be about $1,200 for 2 people round trip. Ouch!

Does anyone have any insight getting a better deal than this?

Would it be cheaper to use a travel agent? I think travel agents can book the roomette for just the nighttime part of the trip, thus saving us money?

If so..any recommendations for a good travel agent that would do Amtrak?

Yay I can't wait to go!

You can get a slight discount if you belong to AAA, but I believe it's only 10% and that it's only on the ticket itself, not on overnight accommodations. The discount can be booked directly on Amtrak's website. (There's a "discount" drop-down box on the booking page)

try using triple A, that will help with some sort of discount.
i have used amtrak the last few years now. it does look like the prices have gone up, but seriously not that much.

you should fine that the closer you get to your date the more those prices will increase. i have seen the return roomette go as hight as $911! i went coach then LOL

i would book now, and then just keep checking. if you can find a great deal, then rebook.

NYC - Penn Station

I think prices have significantly dropped because I had just booked Amtrak tickets from New York City to Orlando for Sept. and priced were under $500 for two people roundtrip. This was before my veteran discount too! (15%)

I can only travel by ground now due to an eardrum problem (Army accident). The last time I flew (1.5 years ago) I had excruciating pain in my ears. Doctors advised against flying indefinitely.

Being an Amtrak Conductor. My BEST advice is using the AAA discount and to buy tickets early. Cheaper to go with Amtrak vs. a Travel Agent, Travel agents charge more than Amtrak does.

Roomette includes food, You can also call Amtrak and ask them if they have better discounts during the time you travel and they might have something bettter. Good Luck, Happy Traveling.

Quicksilver services?

I searched and haven't found this info yet.

I wonder if Quicksilver does pickup services at the Orlando Amtrak train station?

It's been years since we took the train to Orlando, but when we did we booked Mears to take us to and from the train station. Was pretty cheap and they were waiting for us when we arrived. Have fun!

I just got back a few days ago. I tried Quicksilver and they don't have pickup service for Amtrak Orlando. I tried Happy Limo and had no luck. No one was picking up plus I left many messages with a call back number but no luck. Finally called Mears since I had my iPhone with me and had read your post about Mears. They came 2 minutes about I hung up with them. They charged $20 a person from the Amtrak Orlando station to Coronado Springs resort. We were pretty happy with them. They didn't try to charge anything extra. :)
