American Idol Auditions Coming To WDW?

So apparently TMZ are reporting that American Idol is auditioning in WDW and DL. Bet they wished they kept the American Idol Experience now to use as the stage.

Any info about this or is this just out of the blue?

Here is the report:

ABC ... you just snagged "American Idol." So, where you goin' for auditions? We're goin' to Disney World!!!

Yep, TMZ has learned the show will shoot audition weeks at Walt Disney World in Orlando. We're told there are 2 reasons:

-- It promotes a huge brand within the Disney company -- amusement parks.

-- It's way more cost-effective than travelling the show to various cities.

A source familiar with the deal tells us there's also talk of doing some of the auditions at Disneyland on the West Coast.

It would also give the show a cross-section of America and beyond, without having to hit the road.

Money is definitely an issue. The show got too expensive to produce, which is why it went off the air a year ago, and this will save a considerable sum.

This is actually a perfect venue for that - has facilities, places for people to wait in line and has its own parking.

Yeah, I don't see any way they'd use one of the parks for this unless it was only for those who make it to the actual judges. But since they clearly want to cut down on production costs, I don't see them going to any real lengths to disrupt the parks. WWoS would be perfect, assuming they have days available with no major events happening.

WWoS definitely makes sense. And with the internet, it isn't like the Audition rounds need to travel. You can do an open call at WDW and DL (or one of Disney's properties in CA), internet auditions...and then do the whittling down from hundreds to 24ish in Orlando vs. LA. (assuming costs would be cheaper in Orlando for that process)

Assuming they do this anything like the old American Idol, they could just mimic the Voice and not really show the cattle call portions.

WWoS would make the most sense... would any of the convention center space that they have at any of the hotels work as well? I thought I recalled many of the auditions they had previously being at convention centers...

Parking would be the problem, they'd have to bus everyone in, which they could do.

Imagine the exrtra revenue if all audition contenders have to pay park admission and parking!! This one is a no brainer!

I'm actually okay with this. I don't want another attraction in the parks though.
Not so sure the show will make it in the long run, as I think that ship has sailed. I think Disney probably seems to realize it's a has been as well, and that's why they're planning to have events at the parks to try and give it a boost.
