American Adventure Question

Hey everyone,

I don't post too often, just lurk around the boards reading most everything, but I am writing a paper and have a question for the experts on these boards...

During the last scene of The American Adventure, Ben Franklin quotes someone (Steinbeck?) about how success can change a nation.

Does anyone know this quote in its entirety and who said it?

Thanks in advance!

Just to make it easy.. from the linked script:

We now face the danger, which in the past has been the most destructive to the humans: Success, plenty, comfort and ever-increasing leisure. No dynamic people has ever survived these dangers.
