This is good timing. I was just wondering if anyone watches the old cartoons around here. Judging from the lack of response here... no? I'm not sure I've seen this one before, although I do generally love the black and white stuff. I have some of it from the old Walt Disney Treasures sets (though I have many more to track down), but have mostly been watching stuff lately as it (finally) falls into public domain. I was just busting a gut over the drunk ostrich in The Gallopin' Gaucho the other day.
Just remember, it all started with a mou -- a knock-off of Felix the Cat. [I was really hoping for some sort of Julius merch around Disney 100. Alas.]
I watched all the Silly Symphony shorts as well as Mickey Mouse and other characters. The black and white ones tend to get repetitive eventually. When they started doing color eventually they also thought about adding plots. Music Land is a personal favorite of mine. I also like The Old Mill and The Goddess of Spring.
I love that one, too. We were at the D23 Expo in 2015 and got to see a live orchestra play along with it (complete with animal sounds) among others -- lots of fun. I walked away from there with the 16 LP set of all of the SS soundtracks, some of which I'm sure I've still not actually seen.
It’s not very long into Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration before you realize you are witnessing something truly special, historic, and magical
