The Amateur Athletic Union, headquartered at Walt Disney World Resort, is the largest amateur sports organization in the United States. The AAU annually hosts athletic competitions across the country for more than 400,000 athletes of varying ages in some 32 sports. This summer marks the eighth consecutive year the AAU has given young athletes from all 50 states the opportunity to travel to Walt Disney World Resort for athletic competitions.
During the spring and summer of 2004, more than 20 AAU championships and other events will be contested at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, including the 17:U and 18:U AAU Girls Basketball National Championships (July 11-17) and the 16:U and 17:U AAU Boys Basketball Super Showcases (July 19-26). The events include many of the nation's top youth and high school-age athletes who may some day earn college scholarships, Olympic medals, or perhaps even careers in professional sports.
