Am I the only one who misses 20,000 leagues under the sea?

I watched the dvd again last night- AWESOME sound and picture! James Mason and Kirk Douglas are worth the price of admission! The first time we went to WDW, we proceeded immediately to the 20K attraction. Was it cheesy, dated and could you see strings holding the "fish" in place? YES! And it was great. The subs were cool, the narration was great and my kids loved that ride. They promptly removed it soon thereafter. I hear they have one in Tokyo?
Anyway- we went to DL in California and really enjoyed the bobsleds and especially the Indiana Jones ride- my son had to be clad head to toe in Indiana Jones accessories for the remainder of the trip. He actually LIKED waiting in line and felt cheated if there were no line. At the end of that day we went to an outdoor cowboy steak cookout complete with chuckwagon, outdoor fires guitar and harmonica music- it was without a doubt one of the best places we ever ate. Went back the next year: GONE!

Are there any of your favorites you'd like to see returned and or updated?

Thanks!

I loved 20K! I would love to have it back in any park. Being in a submarine was the coolest thing I could have imagined when I was a kid.

Everyone probably misses 20K, I miss it and I didn't even live when it was open :lookaroun

I would love to see a new 20K open somewhere else in MK or AK or at a 5th gate someday...Just too classic of a ride! You can't find rides like this anywhere!

Yes, I miss 20K terribly. I always feel a bit saddened everytime I walk past that area in FLand where it used to sit. :( Was by far an E-ticket must do when it was in operation.
And yes, there is a 20K at Tokyo DisneySea park. Similar idea concept, but very different in the vehicle design and ride sequence (you don't ride in an actual submarine, even though there is one roaming the Mysterious Island lagoon. It's also darker; more sci-fi-ish than the Mk & DL versions. Fans of the U.S. versions will not be disappointed.

I am hoping the new expansion is so awesomely themed that I don't get annoyed walking past the place where the ride once was. From the looks of the concept art - there's a good chance of that happening. I will never fully get over it (so dramatic, I know) but at least if the land is put to good use (and no, that playground did not count) I will feel less angry about it.

20,000 was an incredibly unique attraction in that you were actually submerged in water. Most attractions accomplish this artificially, but nothing beats the real thing. That's why it held such a special place in so many hearts. Where else - other than the Disney parks - could guests experience such a thing?

I stated this in a very similar thread quite some time ago, but I don't miss this attraction at all. My very clear memories involve a hot, humid, and cramped little compartment, water on the floor and seats, and a view of hokey plastic underwater creatures and plants. Boy howdy, well worth forty-five minutes in the blazing sun! I know that I'm going against the grain here, but I would not bother to ride this attraction if it were still around today in its original form.

I couldn't agree more. Like the person above said "you're kidding me right"
I rode it once and I'm glad it's gone.

I miss it immensely. It was my all-time favorite WDW attraction, no matter how long and hot the queue was, not matter how long I forced my parents to stand in the blazing hot sun to wait to ride on it as a very young child!! I think I probably remember it more now from watching YouTube videos of it, but I'd love to be able to go on it now, as a young adult. Such a shame that it just sat there, rotting away for so many years until it was finally put out of its misery :(

As far as wishing for favorites to come back, as far as MK goes, I'd love to see "Mickey Mouse Revue" one more time. I always liked that as a kid. I also loved the Skyway. I have vivid memories of riding that with my mom when I was just a whee little lad :D

I always thought the effects were rather cheezy, and I don't miss it nearly as much as say...the original Journey into Imagination.

But yes...there is a nostalgia factor that makes me miss it...if only for the fact that there was and is nothing like it.

There are countless dark rides, and boat rides and rides that go around in circles...but nothing was quite like the anticipation of entering a "real" sub, going down and finding your own personal porthole view...

Add to that the truly beautiful Steampunk aesthetics of those submarines as they glide across the Lagoon.

Yeah. Nostalgia trumps actual memory on this one. I know it wasn't a great ride. But it was definitely a unique ride.

Unfortunately I don't remember the ride all that well! My last trip was may 2010 but it had been an 11 year gap, I was 14 in 1998 and wasn't really paying attention

this was a vastly...

this ride was vastly superior to a ton of other Disney rides.. the only thing " unbelievable about it" was the Sea Serpent.. other then that..

all of it could have happened. All of it..

this was the biggest mistake ever at Disney World.. and Disney land proves this on a daily basis by showing the popularity of the ride that goes on there..
