Am I Crazy??

I just posted about going to WDW in the last week of August, and right after it hit me that I will be traveling through the parks with a senior citizen. The person I'm traveling with is very energetic, but still she is 70+ and I was wondering if ANYONE has any experience with older people when it is most hot at WDW. I really want to make sure she will be okay and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how the day could be broken up and how to prepare for the extreme August heat (does it rain at any point?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AHHH....MY WEEK!!!

Well the weather might be a little tough on the Senior, it is very hot, and very VERY VERY Humid!!!! So beware!!! I would advise you to get the senior a wheelchair or ECV so they won't have to walk in the extreme heat. Make sure they keep hydrated, water is so important!! Also alternate between outdorr and indoor rides so you can get a good split in the heat and A/C. Also stay at a Disney Resort. This way you can quickly get back to the resort for a break.

I have seen many seniors venturing through the parks at this time, and they seem to be in good spirit despite the weather. So it should be fine, just take extra precautions.

Also rain is usually limited to late afternoon-early evening. It is clear before that (morning) and then clear during the later evening.

One last thing...Remember to wear hats or visors. They will help you out a lot.

If you need any more help Private message me. I will help you the best I can!!!

Thank you very much for your response. We will be staying on property (Grand Floridian), so that's not a problem, and the fact that the lines will be short helps a lot for moving between indoor/outdoor attractions. One more question to anyone who has experience: is Animal Kingdom just insane in late August? I know it just gets unbelievably hot, but is it just not worth it to trek through the park in late august with a senior citizen. Thanks again for your incredible help.

Don't miss AK. Granted it is hotter than the others due to lack of shade It is still not to be missed. There are also a lot of outdoor attractions. Kali River Rapids usually has a short line, which means you can ride that and stay cool for a while. Also they have Misting fans on the outdoor lines that keep you cool. Remember though a wheelchair will help out a lot Espcecially in AK.

bring a "Squeeze Breeze" and a water bottle. If you forget...disney sells them hehe. It's really important to plan out your days in the summer, and try to hit any outdoor shows as early in the day as possible or late if they play them at night and plan indoor or water rides for the afternoons. Also, if you have kids, it might be a good idea to return to the hotel in the afternoon and let them swim and let the senior relax a bit in the hotel room. The most important thing to do is stay HYDRATED

Is it just me or I dont see that happening. I mean I go every single year at this time...last week or 2nd to last week of august and the lines are tremendous. Not like x-mas or july 4th...but theyre still hour long lines. Or maybe I'm totally losing it cuz I haven't been all the lately :hammer: I hope the lines are short for you though! Hope you have fun!

The lines are an hour long for Space Mountain, but not for many other rides. The parks really not crowded.

The lines aren't bad at all.........at MGM......RnRC was 20 mins and ToT was 10 mins.

the Longest line I saw was Peter Pan at 60 mins..........and of course Test Track was it's usual like 3 hour wait.
