OK but those were reject “blooper” pics from our last TR. Here’s one where we’re overdressed:

That’ll do.

And…Mickey.

Now, when we were on our way out to Wailulu, we poked our heads into Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, and we heard the couple in front of us being told it was a 90 minute wait and they weren’t guaranteed a seat.

Toodles!

However, on the way back, we noticed Trader Sam’s outdoors was pretty empty. So, here’s another first for us!

It was dark, it was nice - my new phone keeps making the pretty black sky look gray. I’ll have to figure that out.

This drink menu is not so much for us. It’s fun(!) but everything is a rum drink. Rum is extra high in…sugar. Boo!

Naturally, I ordered a double spikey pineapple. It’s mango flavored rum with dole whip! Even with a double shot, once stirred up, it was delicious.

Brian stuck with the same Blue Moon like he had at Wailulu.

Happy to do this new first for us as an added bonus to an already full night that was supposed to have been just a record show and dinner! 😀😀😀😀 I tried explaining to Brian all about the black pearl and so forth. He really didn’t care lol. We split some pork tacos, which were not bad, but I don’t like the gummy soft tacos so much.

Didn’t realize how spiky my hair was until I went to the bathroom. Was that from the spiky pineapple?

Out of the blue, with maybe 6 to 8 customers in the place, this barefoot guy came out and started playing the ukulele and kind of mumble singing in a Hawaiian style!

We were a little silly at this point, and he was a little funny, so we got the giggles for a minute.

We were wondering where the smell of gas was coming from. I assumed it was from the outdoor heater tower thingies, but they weren’t on. Brian got up and tried to sniff one, and our server clumsily explained something neither of us comprehended. It had something to do with what used to be a waterfall that was now empty, which usually masked(??) the odor? She said it was like a bunch of pilot lights always trying to come on. 😳 💥

We left full of drinks & food, mumble-singing as if we had a ukulele, “Don’t go chasing empty waterfalls…” 🤪

The kids water play area is under refurbishment and the waterfall feature at Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is connected to that system, which explains why the waterfall was off. I’ve never heard of the waterfall “masking the smell” but the tiki torches around the property are gas powered, and there is always a gas smell at the terrace and the outdoor seating for Capt. Cooks.

I insisted we stop at Captain Cook’s, because I knew their selection of overnight snack stuff would be better than ASM.

It was meh, at least as far as grab n go went.

Those were cute, but if I’m eating sugar (at all, but especially around Brian) it needs to be really worth it. We passed, and went back to the room.

This looked interesting after a double spiky pineapple stacked on top of two different flavored old fashioneds.

Don’t judge me. 🤣 I was like, “When is the balloon drop, and what can I win?”

Our Lyft driver was the same nice lady who took us back to the room on Christmas night. I remembered she had a lot of kids (9!) and she remembered about Kylie. 💕 Her husband is a chef at CG where we had just eaten earlier! I told her to tell her husband his wontons were excellent - and we laughed about the lamb/venison menu snafu. We love her! Good tip.

Perfect ending to a perfect, long day. B was out like a light in minutes. I took a little longer to unwind. Day one, completed! What was on the agenda for Monday?
