Something I've never been sure of so I was wondering can anyone clear it up for me! In Disney's Alladin why do they get other actors to sing the songs of the characters? It's all here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0103639/. Lea Salonga also sings Reflection in Mulan where as Ming-Na does the speaking voice! I gather that possibly Ming-Na and Linda Larkin can't sing, but then why not just get Lea Solonga do not speaking aswell as singing!

They have the luxury of being able to pair what they believe to be the best spoken voice for the role with the best singing part for the role. It's nothing new even in live action musicals.

If you look up one of the voice doubles in Mulan - Marni Nixon (she provided the singing voice for the Grandmother character) you will find she has provided the singing voice for many big Hollywood movies including Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Maria in West Side Story and Anna in The King and I.
