I lived in VA for 15 years, I am still close.

Yes, I rode XLC, loved it. Too Short though. Yes, I miss Drachen Fire. Especially since no one could ever logically explain why it was there for so many years and never operated.

The Draken Fire is for sale, the last price i heard was $1.2 mil. Ridership had been slipping, the ride became real rough. A lot people started complaining. I found that during the transitional inverted loop, my head would get banged up real good. It was real good for the first few years. I think some unexpected settling caused the supports to shift and make for an uncomfortable ride.

Alpengiest more than makes up for the loss. Busch Gardens has done some great things over the past few years. (Apollo's Chariot, Ireland, Howl-o-scream) I would much rather go there than Kings Dominion.

I haven't been to KD in several years. I had noticed on my last trip how run down and dirty the park was becoming. Maybe i'll try next year.

The Canal walk is a work in progress. Richmond City Council spends too much time bickering about petty items to fully invest in the great ideas that come along. However, there has been some real nice improvements in that area. My company did some work on a building near the turning basin. The area will come along in time.

Hey! Greetings from another Virginian!

I just posted about Va. to grizzlyhall's thread, before I saw this one!

Anyway, greetings! Yes, I like Busch Gardens Williamsburg, especially in the fall. My favorite thrill ride there is Apollo's Chariot (where that bird hit Fabio in the face!), but I still love the smoothness of the Loch Ness Monster. Howl-O-Scream is really done well. I have not tried the new Halloween program at Paramount's King's Dominion, although it looks to be more focused on gruesomeness than the theming that is done at Busch. I think that is always true, though: PKD goes more for the cheap thrills that bring in hordes of teenagers, while BG focuses on true theming and fun for the whole family.

I also enjoy Colonial Williamsburg, again especially in the fall. A great place for a date. They have "ghost tours" that are fun, too.

And one more thing, since I seem to be focusing in Halloween in this post: The Edgar Allen Poe house is a nice, cheap tour in Richmond, and it is neat to see his room preserved on the "lawn" at UVa. Both worth seeing if you haven't, but too small for a single destination trip.

Proud to be a Virginian born and bred!:D

We also get season's passes to Busch Gardens: it's no WDW, but hey, its only 20 minutes away!

I don't miss Draken Fire at all. I agree it was too rough. And with Loch Ness, Alpengeist, and Apollo's Chariot, they have plenty left. In fact, on a fall day with no crowds, you can easily get rollercoastered out!:hammer:
