When we booked our room, we got a perferred room. I didnt ask for it he just said it was one. I didnt question if it was more money because of the great price I got on the whole package. I am wondering what makes it a perferred room. Is it the location or is it nicer?

I was wondering the same thing. We recently booked All Star Movies for September and were only given an option for a preferred location, unlike the other All Star or Pop Century resorts. I understand from previous threads that Disney expand the number of preferred buildings at Movies. Although Disney's website states that preferred locations are primarily the 2 Fantasia buildings. However, does this mean the resort will be near full or sold out of standard rooms? Can anyone give some insight to what is happening here?

Ask and ye shall have an answer!

Perferred room locations are generally closer to the bus stops, gift shop, food court and lobby. As there are no no differenences in room size(excluding the family suites) what you are actually paying extra for is a shorter walking distance. If money is not an option, I say go for the perferred location, as these resorts are rather spread out and you could have a hike to the food court, bust etc.. Hope this hepls!

Generally this refers to rooms that have better views (eg of the pool rather than the car park) or rooms in buildings closer to the main building so you dont have to walk as far to the bus stop, food court etc.

I'm not sure why you would get it automatically, I would assume that this means these are the only rooms left and therefore it would be unfair to charge you extra.

I'm sure one of the resident experts will be along shortly.

If a regular room is available for your date of travel the web-site will generally give you the option of a standard room. Rooms being sold out for your date of travel could be the only reason I can think of for you only getting a perferred room location! Just out of interest when are you traveling?

ASM preferred room

Hi there! Im new here so please bear with me.

I too go to ASM in sept however, I chose to stay in preffered room because of the location. If it helps the last time I went my preferred room was in Fantasia.

Out of curiosity what date was only preffered rooms avaibale, Sept is normally real quiet.

I was going thru the Disney Website to get a quote for someone the other day and it only showed the option of a Preferred Location when usually it shows both options of Preferred or Standard. Very interesting! You would think it would still show both with the Standard Grey'd out for lack of availability.

Welcome Aboard chinnys! Seems that late September and Early October are the times showing Preferred only, although I have not thoroughly checked it out yet.

It's all about location. If you plan on using the transportation, or eating several times at the food court. It can really be worth it. I have stayed at the far rooms before, and we found ourselves driving to breakfast, and hitting the mug refill fountian on the way back before parking at the farthest rooms. It's quite a hike. Trust me, not a lazy thing, just a HUGE time thing. It can take 10+ minutes easily each way, plus the steps of you are on the 3rd/4th floors.

I stayed at AS:M back in 2000 and was hoping to get into one of the Toy Story buildings but we ended up in the Love Bug building (Building 6 - Rm# 6372 bottom floor at the bottom of the "t"). It was so quiet and relaxing then it would have been if we had been closer to Cinema Hall. The only sound we heard at night was the putt-putt of the pizza delivery golf cart. The walk from there to the Hall was nice in the morning to see the fresh dew on things and go in to have breakfast.

It doesn't matter where you stay but I'm going to save some money and stay at a standard room.

We are booked at ASM from Sept. 10-17. We also only had preferred option. I find it hard to believe they are completely book when all the other All Stars and POP are giving you standard and preferred options. The only other options I can think that may the standard buildings are not being book during this time and may be going through some refurbishment, cleaning painting, etc. Thoughts?
