All-Star Movies Questions

Hello-

I'm staying at the ASMovies resort in April and had a few questions:

1. Am I correct in stating that the ASM rooms do not have coffee makers and there's no way to request one? I have a couple of coffee drinkers traveling in our group who are not fond of Nescafe (the standard WDW coffee that you can get at the food courts, etc.)...which kind of puts them out of luck I'm thinking. They were hoping to bring some from home and to brew their own...

2. Does anyone have any idea how many connecting rooms there are at the resort (or in one of the standard buildings)? Our party has 2 separate reservations and had requested connecting rooms and I'm trying to estimate our odds of getting one...

3. Following up on the above question, how often does it happen that parties are split up and don't even have rooms next to each other? I would hope not often, but I know that nothing is guaranteed...

1) Never seen coffee makers in our visits to Movies (we have stayed in both standard and preferred)
2) Do not know but I would guess there are at least 40%. Just my guess!

Did you request connecting rooms ahead of time?

Have a great trip!

We stayed at All-Star Movies in September and had no problem getting connecting rooms. Remember that they will guarantee you connecting rooms if children will be in the second room (not sure if that helps your particular situation).

Also, I heard that the less preferences you list, the more likely you are to get your choice. Meaning, if you asked for both connecting rooms and rooms in the Toy Story section, you might be limiting yourself.

We stayed in the Mighty Ducks section and were very pleased. When planning, that was probably our least preferred location (based on my children's preference of movie theme), but it could not have worked out better. First, it was a bit quieter (which helped with naps). Second, we had our own pool, but still visited the Fantasia pool also. Third, we were just as close (if not closer) to the All-Star Music bus stop which gave us another bus stop option. Finally, the walk to the main building was not bad at all.

Sorry, but I can't remember enough to answer your coffee question. There is, however, a McDonalds on site just outside the All-Star gate. McDonalds recently upgraded their coffee pretty substantially.

The All Star Music suites have coffee makers. The rest of the value rooms do not. Some people bring down a cheap coffee maker with them and throw it away when they leave.

The earlier you check-in the better odds you have of getting a connecting room. As autigger said connecting room ARE ONLY guaranteed for families. This is one of the few guarantees you can get from Disney.

You will probally have luck getting a coffee maker in the new suites. They have small kitchens in them, so one would assume that they have them. I do not believe any of the all stars have coffee makers, unless they are the suites.

From a fellow cast member (ME!) who works at the All-Star front desk:

1) No coffee makers and no way to request one. Sorry!

2&3) We do try our best to honor all requests, but as someone said earlier, the more requests you have, the harder it will be to get them all in. My advice is just pick one (maybe two) thing that you HAVE to have (location, connecting, floor, etc.). We have about 120 sets of connecting rooms.

My advice is call just directly about 5-7 days (when your reservation is in our system) and let us know your request. The direct line is 407-939-6880.

Hope this helps ans can't wait to see you at th All-Stars!

Is that McDonalds staying there? I thought that Disney chose not to renew their partnership with them.

Disney is not renewing their Happy Meal toy sponsorship. They may in the future license out happy meal toys, but not necessarily exclusively to McD's. McDonalds is still on property and staying, and the sponsorship of Dinosaur has continued as well.

Take your own coffeemaker! Just make sure it's a cheap one (from Wal-mart or even the thrift store) so it's no big deal if it gets broken. We sometimes take a toaster, too! Have fun!

This is new to me! If this is accurate, that is really nice. I know when I went last year, they made us book 2 rooms, with an adult in each room (even though one is obvioulsy for the kids, - 6 and 3). They still told us that that it was still a request, even though they were aware that the kids would be using the connecting room. I was really concerned that we would not get connecting rooms, and then I was unsure what I would do. Fortunatley, we did check in early, and were able to snag the connectors, so everything worked out.

Is this a new policy by chance?

The above was kind of correct. Connecting rooms can be guarunteed by the DRC for familes with less adults than there are rooms. I.E. 1 adult w/2 rooms, 2 adults with 3 rooms, ect. Any other situation can be requested, but not guarunteed. JP can back me up on this one too:)

It's a really stupid system by Central Reservations. The only way connecting rooms are guarenteed for familes is that they have to be booked as one reservation, must have more children than adults, and must be book through our Disney reservation center. I for the life of me cannot figure it out, and I work there!

Our group consisted of me, my wife and out two small children. We got connecting rooms at All-Star Movies and its was "guaranteed" becsue of the children.

We went through a travel agent who was VERY helpful and she must have known the magic words to have our reservation work out. Traveling in September might have also helped out seeing that it was not very crowded.

HS0411: I just wanted to say that we received EXCELLENT service from the front desk at All-Star Movies during our stay.

We had a couple of small hitches during our trip that the front desk cleared up very quickly. First, some of our "keys to the world" became de-magnetized by my cell phone and they promptly fixed it. Second, we had some dining credits inadvertently taken off our account (waiter at Ohana did not know my children were under three) and those were quickly replaced.

That's good to hear. I've recently moved to the All-Star call center, so all I usually get is complaints and issues. It's always nice to hear something positive.

Just FYI, travel agents cannot guaruntee anything. They can say that they can, but in reality, they're hoping that they'll get it and look like they were able to guaruntee it.

Thanks for the input so far! Our party is my wife, daughter and I, and my in-laws. Our hope was that with connecting rooms, the little one (she'll be 4 when we leave) could just go between rooms if she liked, but if we don't end up getting them, its not a huge deal I suppose. We're unfortunately checking in late that day, so that may work against us too...are the rooms assigned only when you check in, or does the system assign them once the reservations come into the system?

Also, while we're discussing this stuff, does the day of the week greatly impact the odds of getting what you request? We're checking in mid-week (late in the day on a Tuesday), which at the time of planning seemed like a good idea as we would avoid the throng checking in on Friday-Sunday, but now that I think about it, I'm worried that people will be checked in for the week and we'll have slimmer pickings when we check in on Tuesday...

There's not much we can do about it at this point, but I am curious... :)

If you have a car go by Home Depot or Walgreens and buy a coffee maker. They are real cheap and we just left it behind. More than likely it got thrown out by Mousekeeping as well as the $20 microwave we got at a Home depot in Kisssimiee. We ate alot of popcorn and soup that week.

Just to clarify...

Per Official DRC Policies...

Connecting Rooms may be guaranteed only when there are one or two adults traveling with three or more children (ages 3-17), and the party size exceeds the maximum capacity of the room category being booked, requiring two rooms. In all other cases, it is only a request and will be treated as such.

Not all rooms connect or adjoin. Be sure to ask if connecting rooms are even possible for your Resort / room category choice.

We cannot guarantee connecting rooms for reservations booked for same-day arrival.
