All because of a tagline. . .really?

So did anyone read the article this week when jerry bruckheimer and some others through the marketing manager for sorcerer's apprentice under the bus for the movie doing so horribly at the box office because of a tagline? A tagline....really? Really?

What are you're guys' thoughts on this?

This is my take on this: So for some background I have worked with fortune 500 companies as well as mom and pop stater companies and I come to find the difference between the two is the strategic planning in order to nail down a method for $ucce$$.

For example Disney likes to create recipes, I think they have an entire book based on the study. When they want to make money they just go the book and look at various chapters (i.e. the disney princess franchise is one of the most popular studied chapters). The recipe book has tons of sections even for theme park design....whereas small independent companies are always trying to find the recipes in order to grow, they don't have enough case studies to reflect on, dissect, and study. It's a constant give and take, a waxing and waning if you will.

I think in this case, disney has just assumed that Jerry Bruckheimer produced and or directed films are a shoe win. After POTC he got his chapter in the disney recipe book. I think Disney jumped the gun on this....granted he has had some fun films, of course POTC (which only the first one was truly amazing and the 2nd and 3rds success was only carried by Johnny Depp and the fact it was "based" on one of the most popular attractions disney have ever created).

Needless to say I think Disney needs to reflect on his films, the directors who he has leading the films and not so much as the simple things like taglines. I feel that his films all are the same, is it a style? No...Jerry himself is one note. Simply ingredients not really a michelin star chef. He has his own recipe book and he's convinced disney his recipes are all shoe wins...and Disney has bought it, hook line and sinker.

What do you think? Is Jerry Bruckheimer box office gold for the mouse or is he a let down? What do you feel about his last few Disney flicks?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.

According to IMDB the tagline was, "It's the coolest job ever."

Do you have a link to the article?

If they're really blaming the movie's failure on a tagline it's pretty hilarious.

I think it's pretty clear why the movie failed: it was a stupid idea.

All I've seen is the trailer, but to me it looked like an attempt to cash in on the lull before the last two Harry Potter movies, except they stripped out all the charm of the English academia setting and familiar characters and replaced it with the plot from "Wanted." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4pWuFv48Zk

I bet most people just assumed it was the same movie as "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" or whatever it was.

Oh, and speaking personally I avoid Jerry Bruckheimer movies like the plague. If I had to choose between having to watch "National Treasure" or getting strep throat again I'd choose the disease.

What's a "shoe win"?

I think he means "shoe-in"... unless the sorcerer's shoe won a contest! ;-)

Anyhow, I agree that the idea seemed strained -- and that Jerry Bruckheimer is becoming Jerry One-Note. It always has to be an over-the-top action flick. The best action picks don't have to be over-the-top, unbelievable.

Ridiculous. They used Mickey to promote this film too. Is it HIS fault it failed?

(Anybody who answers in the affirmative, by the way, is going to have to answer to me. :fork: :animwink: )
