Alcazar of Segovia Castle Influenced the Original Snow White... really?

I wanted to make this its own thread to reach out to see if anyone can provide some history.

I was wondering where this whole 'this castle in spain influenced the original Snow White' thing came from as I had never heard of it before. Now, I don't have Snow White history on my mind all the time... but know a fair amount about it. This didn't stick out to me. Another user provided this article when I asked-

That article/tour pitch is very weird and sounds like it was written with AI... there's also some interesting buzz on Tripadvisor of that website having claimed awards it never received. Anyways, within the 'article' are the following-

"Today at Tour Travel & More, we’re excited to share news that has thrilled Disney fans all over the world: the iconic Alcazar of Segovia in Spain has been identified as the inspiration behind the famous castle in ‘Snow White’!"

Identified by who?

"The Alcazar of Segovia, with its impressive architecture and majestic location, has been identified as the source of inspiration for Snow White’s castle. This beautiful castle perched atop a hill in the historic city of Segovia has left all Disney fans in awe of its uncanny similarity to the castle we all know and love from the Snow White movie."

Again, identified by who... and why are Disney fans in awe of its 'uncanny similarity'?

"The magic of Disney lies in its ability to take inspiration from real places and cultures and turn it into stories that resonate in the hearts of people of all ages. Discovering that the Alcazar of Segovia was the source of inspiration for Snow White’s castle shows us how reality and imagination can merge to create something truly unique and moving."

Who discovered this?

"It is not surprising that the Alcazar of Segovia was the inspiration for this iconic castle."

Says who?

"This castle, which has recently been crowned as the inspiration behind Snow White’s castle, is a must-see."

Crowned? By who?

"The revelation that Segovia’s Alcazar served as the inspiration for Snow White’s castle in the Disney films is a thrilling reminder of how the magic of real life can inspire the magic of the imagination. This discovery has added a new chapter to the rich history of fairy tales and has made the Alcázar of Segovia an even more special destination for travellers and Disney lovers."

Revelation? Discovery? By who? This article/tour pitch was posted on October 13th, 2024... did we Disney fans miss the announcement? Did Disney post something? Is there ANYTHING from Disney post 2000 that anyone can recall/find about this?

Doing a quick dig into articles from 2000 to 2024... I found these-

This article from March 2020 mentions this location... and seems to be nothing more than an AI image similarity... the article also mentions a relationship of Atlantis at the Palm to Little Mermaid... even though Atlantis didn't open until 19 years after Little Mermaid came out.....

This article from 2023 claims that "Disney has now substantiated this claim, acknowledging the Alcazar’s influence in the creation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ iconic castle, which premiered in 1937." and that "A survey conducted by The Walt Disney Company reveals that only 14 per cent of Spaniards were aware of the Alcazar of Segovia’s role in inspiring Snow White’s castle, although in Segovia, this figure is probably much higher."

So... do we have anything from Disney? Anything real? Anyone have a deep dive into Snow White pre AI online article? I'll take anything!

I'll say this too, Disney might be saying this right now for the premiere (the horrible sweep it under the rug premiere for their horrible film)... but where did they get it from? We've seen them put AI art in the parks... there's no reason to not think their reference is the same AI articles from the internet.

There has to be some sort of article/write up from pre 'remake' times...

This is an interesting line of inquiry. I do think there is a strong resemblance, but it's not unreasonable to ask how this entered the discourse. I've seen instances where fairly reputable publications repeat things without carefully analyzing the original source material. Articles quoting articles quoting articles. There is a difference between an explicit association (i.e. quotes or artifacts from animators or production staff) and associations made later by commentators analyzing the film.

If you can't find anything concrete, I'd consider asking the Disney Archives. They have a webpage with answers to questions that have been posed:

Form for asking a question:

Cheers!

Thank you! I asked Disney! I doubt they'll ever mention it, but it's submitted.

That 2016 travel blog post is certainly nice showing how awesome the place looks. I notice the reference to it 'being' Snow White's Castle refers to a article from a website that has since been deleted. This seems to be the earliest mention of it on the internet?

Real World Locations That Inspired Disney Movies (dead link)

So... Do we have anything prior to that? Where are the miceage, micechat etc. articles talking about the location? I looked to see if Walt ever visited Spain... and he did.... in the 50s...
