You've come the right place.
First I'd recommend doing a search in the Trip Reports section for AKL. You should find several trip reports with people that have stayed at AKL.
Also, in this fourm, there are many thread asking exactly what you've asked, so do a search hear as well.
Now as to my personal opinion...I think the place is wonderful.
So much so, when we return in October this year, it will be our 4th stay. We;ve stayed every year since the place opened. We love it that much. And while I like other places at the world, this one is our favorite.
So high points are:
Boma and Jiko, two of the top places to eat at WDW. Great food and service, and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere to eat at.
The Savannas. How can you go wrong with animals at your balcony in the morning and night (if you stay in a savanna view room).
The store. Yea, that sounds funny, but Zawandi is a one of the best resort stores I've been in. Really neat stuff, you can spend a lot of time looking around.
The architecture. The place is quite breathtaking. The lobby is huge and open, and the rich woods, carvings, art, and decore is grand.
The CMs. The are great, exspecially the ones from Africa. They do make it seem much more than "just a nother resort" place.
Now you also asked about the busses. We've found, overall, that the buss system is quite relieable for us. Every 20 min or less. There were a few times, when it was really crowded at MK, that it was a hassle, but you could quickly notice that all the busses from all the resorts were suffering that day to MK, so it wasn't just AKL. Overall though, the busses are fine. I have the normal bus times in my sig below, so take note.
There is also tons of other stuff like story telling, tours, pool, and others also. It's a great place to loose yourself.
The biggest negitives I've been told is the lighting is to low in the rooms, but I like the low lighting so I don't have an issue there. And that you have to walk a mile to get to your room. OK, that one can be true. If you get a room way out at the end of one of the trails, it can be a hike back to the lobby.
Have fun!
