AKL Question/Review

Hi,
I was just curious what people thought about the AKL I'm thinking about staying there...I read a few reviews on all ears and most people seemed to enjoy it. It would be me (23) and my mother (54). Also how is the bus service at the resort?

Meega, nala kwishta!
You've come the right place.

First I'd recommend doing a search in the Trip Reports section for AKL. You should find several trip reports with people that have stayed at AKL.

Also, in this fourm, there are many thread asking exactly what you've asked, so do a search hear as well.

Now as to my personal opinion...I think the place is wonderful.

So much so, when we return in October this year, it will be our 4th stay. We;ve stayed every year since the place opened. We love it that much. And while I like other places at the world, this one is our favorite.

So high points are:

Boma and Jiko, two of the top places to eat at WDW. Great food and service, and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere to eat at.

The Savannas. How can you go wrong with animals at your balcony in the morning and night (if you stay in a savanna view room).

The store. Yea, that sounds funny, but Zawandi is a one of the best resort stores I've been in. Really neat stuff, you can spend a lot of time looking around.

The architecture. The place is quite breathtaking. The lobby is huge and open, and the rich woods, carvings, art, and decore is grand.

The CMs. The are great, exspecially the ones from Africa. They do make it seem much more than "just a nother resort" place.

Now you also asked about the busses. We've found, overall, that the buss system is quite relieable for us. Every 20 min or less. There were a few times, when it was really crowded at MK, that it was a hassle, but you could quickly notice that all the busses from all the resorts were suffering that day to MK, so it wasn't just AKL. Overall though, the busses are fine. I have the normal bus times in my sig below, so take note.

There is also tons of other stuff like story telling, tours, pool, and others also. It's a great place to loose yourself.

The biggest negitives I've been told is the lighting is to low in the rooms, but I like the low lighting so I don't have an issue there. And that you have to walk a mile to get to your room. OK, that one can be true. If you get a room way out at the end of one of the trails, it can be a hike back to the lobby.

Have fun!

I've not stayed there (I've not stayed anywhere on site) but I love to visit the place and eat at Boma or Mara - people don't seem to mention Mara. It's the counter service place (though your food is deliverd to your table). The African Stew is tremendous and you can sometimes find the famed Zebra Domes there.

We'll be staying there in a little over 2 1/2 weeks from now. It will be the second time and we absolutely love it. The pool is gorgeous and the animals -well, only Disney could have a resort where you can step onto your balcony and see giraffes, gazelles, etc. grazing right outside. If you choose not to have a savannah view you can still see them from various viewing points around the Lodge. To us, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is paradise.

I am going to be staying there for part of my trip in September.

The savannah view room is especially for my wife on our 2nd anniversary.

I think the way everyone describes it, we will really enjoy. We also have PS for Boma, and look forward to that.

I just stayed at AKL a couple months ago! It was wonderful! I highly suggest a savannah view room b/c it's just amazing to wake up in the middle of the night and see giraffes feeding right outside your room!! Also, I have to agree with everyone else...Boma and Jiko are great. I ate both breakfast and dinner at Boma and dinner at Jiko and I would highly recommend them. Overall, it was just an incredible trip.

As for the bus service - to be honest - I've never had any complaints about Disney transportation at any of the resorts I've stayed at. I was a little worried about AKL since buses are the only form of transport, but they were great. We never waited the full 20 minutes for a bus - even when we just missed one.

Have a great trip!
