Yep, this is very true.
But, there are some things you can do.
First, you need to know that the rooms are dedicated to different purposes. Their are a total of 58 Concierge rooms available. Only 6 of them are the pool view, and all six of them are smoking as well.
The rest are split up between the three savanna views, most of them overlook the main savanna.
So you can do a few things, and these are hints from both other people here and from the Concierge service people I've talked to.
1) Request a savanna view.
2) Don't ask for a smoking room.
3) Talk to the itiniary services once your booked. Again, they cannot make any garuntees, but they will note the savanna request on your record.
I'm in the same boat. For what I'm paying (even with the discounts), a pool room would be a crime. I would even think about downgrading the room, but I wouldn't be able to do the Sunrise Savanna tour then.
It really is an unacceptable response from Disney. If you wanted a savanna room, then you ether get one when booking, or they tell you none availabe at that time, and you pick different dates. Not this wait and see, then when you show up, your perfect vacation is ruined cos all you see is a pool. Those rooms are over $500 a night with taxes (before discounts). Not getting a savanna is like Disney being a quick change artist.
That will be $500 for your deluxe Concierge level room sir...awww, sorry you get a smoke filled pool view, but thaks for your hard earned cash...
