Rumour today at Screamscape that Kali River Rapids are going down for a "Lengthy Rehab" after the holidays.

For some reason that's doubtful to me, but quite intriguing to hear about all of these 2004 closures/rehabs:

Wonders of Life
The Living Seas
Food Rocks/The Land?
Backlot Tour
Fantasmic
The Living Seas
It's a Small World (18 Months)
Kali River
Haunted Mansion (Fall rehab for HMH = rumor)

Very, very interesting. . .

I find it interesting as well.
Even if half of the rumours are true that's alot of capital invested in WDW rehabs.
You know that this has got to have the DLR fans up in arms.

From what I understand SW is just going to be some new lighting and paint maybe some new AA's.

Oh good! I got worried there for a minute! Thanks for your quick response. That's still a long rehab though

The 18 months is pretty necessary, assuming that the rehab crew will work as fast as possible.

From what I hear. . .

  • Redo lighting system
  • Work on electrical components
  • "asbestos abatement"
  • Rehab on sets and animatronics
  • New audio system
  • Roof Repair
  • Regular water draining maintenece
  • Possibility of a new scene

This has been mentioned by SEVERAL Cast Members for weeks now, Media Relations, Screamscape, and the Fab. Disney Babe (who is a member on our forum and a poster on jimhillmedia.com). A lot of contacts have been pretty confident.

Don't worry - we won't get rap music. It's probably going to be a great refurbishment, one that was rumored on WDWMagic quite a while ago (MK Classics Refurbishments) that won't take away from the spirit. :)

Supposedly, the re-hab will take this long because they want to re-do the lighting in the whole ride. However, this requires the removal of the asbestos-lined ceilings, which must be done with extreme care.

I'm surprised by the number of re-habs going on at once. Its about time in some cases, but yes, I'll be the naysayer here and say it may also be the way they can afford to build all these new things (Everest, Stunt show, Stitch, Soarin', Nemo overlay to LS, etc.) while still making the budgetary/profit margins set by Disney (operate less during the non-busy season). But really I guess the only one that is actually closing without having something done to it is WOL. I wonder though what they can do to Kali in terms of a lenghty rehab. I wonder if, like the backlot tour, it needs to close for a while to allow full access to the Everest site. From what I understand, they are pretty close in some aspects and perhaps construction that will soon occur around the site requires no "civilians" around.

PLEASE make it longer! PLEASE! It's SOOOOO short. Compared to Popeyes- its nothing! loL! I wish they'd do some work on the Small WOrld facade...

I never thought the problem with Kali was its length, i always thought it was a little too calm for 'River Rapids.' Apart from its large drop where half the boat gets wet, there is no other real drama that gets you going. And the theming of the ride isn't enough to replace this in my honest opinion. Don't get me wrong i still enjoy the ride and i always get a fastpass, but i'd be a little disappointed waiting in a long line for it, especially if i had previosuly been on Popeye at Islands of Adventure, which most people agree is a much more thrilling ride.

Hopefully they will add a few more water jets to make a bit more water turbulence and perphaps a few more waterfalls half the boat passes through so its a little more random and gives that 'lets ride again' feeling.
