AK Fastpass Dept. Being Eliminated

I heard a few days ago from my friends at Animal Kingdom that the Fastpass operations department is being eliminated. For those of you who don't know, about a year and a half ago all of the Fastpass positions (in Dinosaur they are at the distribution machines, at the fastpass entrance, and the rotunda) were taken over by a new department separate from those running each ride. The theory was that it would be cheaper to run this way. A Fastpass only department could run those three positions at a ride with one breaker (4 total people or 1.3 person per position). In contrast, the Dinosaur Operations team, which would have those 3 positions plus the 10 other normal positions, would normally run with about 19 or 20 people (about 1.5 person per position). Basically, the more people you have in an operation, the more cumbersome it becomes, so the idea was to split things into smaller departments. Plus, as they were still working on perfecting Fastpass in all the different buildings, it made sense to have people specializing in Fastpass.

The most noticeable aspect of all of this is that the Fastpass people never wore the proper area costumes because they were part of a park-wide department. This is especially noticeable in some rides like Tower of Terror. I have no idea if any of the other parks are eliminating their Fastpass departments, but I heard October is the date for Animal Kindgom to lose theirs. It will be nice to see all the positions manned by properly costumed cast members again.

Personally, I'm glad to hear this news, and hope its true. Personally, I never liked how the Fastpass cast members didn't wear the themed costumes.

I went up to a FP CM one day at the Haunted Mansion, and asked why they weren't in proper themed costume. The response I got was so that they could "Stand out" in a crowd. Hrmm... Which do YOU think stands out more? A cast member wearing a butler or maid costume... or a cast member wearing plain khakis and a plain tan shirt... *HRMMM*

Oh you have just made my day!!! :D This would be a great move! I am sick of seeing unthemed costumes in things like ToT and Haunted Mansion. It seesmr ediculous to spend millions themeing an attraction, and then blow it by having non themed costumes.

Lets hope it happens! and thanks for the news!! :-D

I'm glad this is happening. This was a bad idea from day 1. Most (NOT ALL!) of the fastpass CM's i've dealt with have no idea what to do, and don't know a thing about the area they're working at. Thank god it's going back to the attractions.

btw- this isn't just AK, it's propertywide

That explains why they couldn't answer my questions. Thanks for clearing that up.

That really does sound like great news. These days it seems like we see things slowly sliding downhill in terms of quality and show. It's nice to see that some things are actually still changing for the better. Now if the can just get Mission Space up and running in a timely manner and operate it with a minimal amount of down-time, I'll be a happy camper! :sohappy:

... for a while, anyway. ;)

Hey, Rob the guys at Test Track spoke to my husband and I
when we were there in Oct 2000, but me thinks it had something'
to do with the beer and Wine from Germany we were carrying.
These guys were more than happy to "hold" our booty while we rode! :animwink:

Only 52 more days to go!:D
