Airline Ticket Refund?

Anyone have any experience with not being able to go on a trip after already buying your tickets?

Short story, my family and have tickets to leave for FL on Easter Sunday. My 6 year old son has leukemia and we were given the OK to go as long as his blood counts were good. Well his counts have not rebounded from the chemo he was getting and on Mon he had a fever so he was admitted to the hospital and is still there. I asked about insurance before I bought the tickets and they said because he has leukemia that the insurance wouldn't count. Am I out of ______ on the tickets? I know I can change the tickets for a fee of like $70 per ticket (5 tickets in my case), but do they ever give complete refunds? We are flying spirit air.

Thanks

First of all, I'm sorry to hear of your son's setback - hopefully it's just a minor complication.
I would call the airlines and explain your situation. They have an official policy, but I'd bet that if you talk in person to a supervisor, you'll get some assistance with it.

Best of luck to you and to your son!

Have you called Spirit directly to ask them their policy? Seems to me that in a case like yours, they could be flexible, and at the very least, allow you to change your tickets without penalty.

I'm sorry to hear your son is in the hospital. :( I hope he feels better soon - and has a complete recovery.

I am so sorry to hear about your son, I hope he makes a full recovery. I agree with calling Spirit to ask about their policy especially in your situation. Maybe if you can get a letter from his doctor saying that he is not permitted to fly due to his current medical condition, they might have a heart and give you a refund.

I am so sorry to hear about your son. Hopefully he will be doing better soon and he will have many future Disney trips to look forward to enjoying:o

I would certainly agree with everyone that you should give Spirit a call and see if someone there can help you.

Please remember, though, that they might not be as helpful as we are all hoping:o Don't let them upset you! Sometimes speaking with airline reps (or any other phone customer service folks) doesn't always go the way we would hope and can become upsetting very quickly.

I wish you the best of luck in your son's recovery.
